Helping out scared stray dogs is always a challenge because they will never let you get close, and if you try to help them forcefully, it can only cause a huge problem.

Taking it slowly is the best way to go. Sometimes, it might take hours, or even days, but ultimately, it’s worth it.

You are not just saving a scared dog; you are also showing them that humans can be trusted, and as a result, they will be able to find a family in the future. That’s the ultimate goal.

When this Missouri rescuer first found this scared dog hiding in the bushes, she didn’t know how to help the pup, so she came up with a decent plan for it.

It’s A Big Challenge

When Donna from Stray Rescue of St. Louis received information about a scared dog hiding in the bushes, she went to help. She was on her own in this rescue, but that didn’t matter.

She was going to do her best to save this pup. When she first approached this pup, she could immediately tell that the pup was scared.

Donna placed some food and water nearby in hopes that the dog would come to eat it when she moved away.

As she gradually moved away, she noticed that the dog started just walking around the area, but she wasn’t getting close to the bowls.

She also placed a humane trap in that same spot, but that didn’t draw her attention at all. The pup was very cautious about what she was doing.

At that point, Donna thought a closer approach would have to be done. She needed to get close to this dog to show her that she was not a threat.

So, she did, and the dog started barking at her from the bushes. Donna could tell that this was making the pup uncomfortable, but she was showing her that she was not a threat.

Well, That Worked Surprisingly

Eventually, the dog did settle down a bit, and she even allowed Donna to get close enough to put a leash on her. Donna was fearful that the dog might bite her, but that didn’t happen.

Once the leash was on, it’s like everything shifted. The sweet dog just knew that she was saved and that everything was going to be okay.

She was transferred into the small kennel that she had avoided the whole time and then driven back to the shelter in Missouri.

At the shelter, they established that she actually had a broken leg and that was just heartbreaking. It’s hard to tell what it was from, but she needed immediate medical attention.

It’s possible that she was abused by someone before as it would pretty much explain her fear of humans. Either way, she is getting a clean slate now.

She is in good hands now and the Missouri rescuers will do their best to help her heal and start a new life. Given how adorable she is, it’s safe to say she has charmed everyone by now.

In time, she will likely be placed on an adoption list and the pup will hopefully find a forever home with a good family.
