Anyone who claims dogs lack resourcefulness hasn’t observed them on a determined mission.
In those instances, it feels like endless opportunities appear, and you know what happens next will be both amusing and surprising.
I’ve seen my own dog behave the same way. It’s funny how dogs seem to mirror each other when they truly want something.
Yet what this particular dog accomplished went beyond expectation, showing just how clever pups can be when focused.
Caught On Camera
It started as an ordinary day for a staff member at Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, until they entered the kennel area and saw one dog casually roaming.
The rescuer was stunned. How could she have possibly escaped?
The kennels were tall, and no doors had been opened. A dog reaching that height seemed impossible. Right?
The team was baffled. A dog scaling such a height seemed unlikely until they reviewed the security footage.
The dog in question, named Judy, had managed to climb the six-foot kennel door and leap to the ground below. What amazed the staff even more was how she had balanced herself on the narrow metal bars to make her escape.
The footage also revealed that this wasn’t her first attempt. Judy had tried to break out before, but this time, she had finally pulled it off.
She had even made a previous attempt to sneak away during outdoor playtime with other dogs.
A Spirited Dog Earns A Fitting Nickname
April Peiffer, a staff member, told The Dodo: “She did her very best to get out of there, too. So we know that she just is all about going on her own walkabouts.”
Thanks to her bold escape, Judy quickly earned the nickname “jailbreak queen,” a title the team felt captured her personality perfectly.
To ensure her safety, the staff relocated her to a kennel with a secure top, preventing any future climbing adventures.
Despite her escape antics, the goal was never to keep Judy at the shelter for long. When she was first brought in by the Texas rescue team, they discovered she was heartworm positive.
The staff focused on her treatment and recovery, all while searching for a family who would appreciate her spirited nature.
Though they hoped she would be adopted eventually, none of them expected it to happen so quickly.
Before long, Judy found a loving forever home. She now lives happily with her new family in Texas, where she’s free to enjoy life, hopefully without any more jailbreaks.
