It takes skill, experience, and keen observation to solve tough cases, but sometimes the evidence is too obvious to ignore.
When officers at the Roseville Police Department in California arrived at headquarters one morning, they were stunned to find a peculiar scene waiting for them: the “lifeless” body of a stuffed animal and a single suspect hiding just out of sight.
To make the situation even more suspicious, the main suspect happened to be one of their own.
The Case Of The Shredded Monkey
The SSU Sergeant entered the office to discover a scene of chaos. A plush monkey doll had been completely destroyed, its stuffing scattered everywhere.
While the investigation was still underway, the Sergeant already had a strong feeling about who might be responsible for this “incident.”
As he marked off the area with tape and examined what little was left of the poor toy, the top suspect observed quietly from behind a wall, keeping an unusually calm expression.
The alleged culprit? Butter, the department’s police dog.
His motive for this “attack” is still unknown.
“Canine Butter is trying to master his poker face as our SSU Sergeant examines the ‘crime scene’ of a ‘mysteriously’ chewed-up stuffie. Butter is our #1 suspect at this time, and the motive remains a mystery,” the Department wrote on Facebook.
With an expression that seemed to say, “Hey, what happened here?” Butter continued to deny any wrongdoing.
It was an amusing twist considering Butter’s spotless record. As a gentle Crisis Comfort Canine, he has earned a reputation for kindness and professionalism.
But even the most disciplined officers have their off days, and this small “offense” was quickly forgiven. After all, Butter is still a dog at heart.
The Heart Behind The Badge
When he’s not the center of an office mystery, Butter is busy spreading comfort and joy throughout the community. As a Crisis Comfort K9, he plays an essential role at the Roseville Police Department.
He serves as both a therapy and service dog, offering comfort and emotional support to people in need.
“Butter is an invaluable companion in promoting and enhancing mental health, offering emotional support and comfort to individuals who are experiencing stress, trauma, or a crisis,” California PD wrote.
Over the years, Butter has helped countless people by providing reassurance during difficult moments. He is always ready to respond, whether it’s assisting a victim, supporting officers, or simply brightening someone’s day.
“Butter responds to calls with the Social Services Unit to help with traumatic instances, such as mental health, victim advocacy, or critical incident debriefings for our RPD officers. He has visited hospitals, schools, and the occasional coffee shop for a quick pup cup,” RPD concluded.
Even with his busy schedule, Butter never forgets to enjoy life. He loves affection, offers comfort to everyone he meets, and represents the best qualities of his department.
Butter truly is a community treasure, proving that even when caught at a “crime scene,” his heart is always in the right place.
