The shelter had been his home for a while. The walls didn’t scare him anymore, but they didn’t comfort him either.
Every day, he waited for the same sound: the click of a latch somewhere down the hallway. Most days it never came for him.
When a Georgia volunteer finally stopped and reached for his kennel, his tail gave one uncertain wag, then another. He stood slowly, cautious but curious, eyes fixed on the open door.
That first step outside wasn’t fast or confident. It was small, careful, almost hesitant, but it carried the weight of every moment he’d spent waiting.
The short walk that followed said everything words couldn’t about what hope looks like when it finally arrives.
A Wholesome Reaction From The Dog
When dogs are first taken into the shelter, a lot of them come with a sense of optimism. After all, they are now in a safe area, surrounded by people who care about them, and they get plenty of food.
However, as time goes on, even that optimism can wear off, once they realize that they are stuck indoors, in small kennels for most of the day.
Such was the case for Brutus. He was an adorable dog who just wanted somebody to care for him, but the stress of being in a kennel all day got to him.
So, when a kind volunteer named Merve Gurses saw this, she decided to let him out for the day so that he could have some fun.
His reaction was just really wholesome. His tail was wagging nonstop and he had an incredible day outside. This is just what he needed.
After the heartbreak he suffered in the past, he needed someone good who would care for him. Brutus was found by rescuers outside an abandoned house.

It’s likely that his owners moved out and just left him there. This broke his heart completely and it would also explain why he was always so stressed out.
After the rescuers of Fulton County Animal Services took him in, they thought that finding a home for him would be a piece of cake, but it proved to be more difficult than they thought.
However, after some time, he did find a potential adopter, but that fell through. The dog was surrendered shortly after.
After the Georgia rescuers asked why he was returned, the adopter gave no answer. Since he was struggling to find a forever home, he had to be placed on an ‘urgent list’.
This is why the volunteers decided to record a video of him after he was let out of the kennel. They were hoping to show just how much joy he felt after he was shown kindness by other people.
He was a really outgoing and happy dog. He could do well easily in any home. And what do you know, Brutus was adopted shortly after.
The outreach from that one viral clip changed everything for this sweet dog and I am glad to see how he got the happy ending. The rescuers should be proud of themselves for working so hard to help him find a home.
