When adopting dogs, it’s important to understand that it’s something that should be permanent. You are taking in another life and also caring for it.
That’s the crucial part that some owners don’t understand. To them, dogs only serve a very minor purpose and that is either to guard the house or just kind of be there like a prop.
When things get tough, a lot of these so-called ‘owners’ will abandon their dogs at the first sign of inconvenience, and that is just really cruel.
But it does happen. When a group of rescuers in Virginia found an abandoned pup next to a Denny’s restaurant, they contacted the owners only to be met with shock.
They Didn’t Want Him Back
When the kind rescuer found this sweet pup, she immediately contacted his owners, but was stunned to learn that they didn’t want him back.
He was completely abandoned, and he still didn’t realize it. The kind woman decided to put the word out about his abandonment in case anyone wanted to take him in.
So, another woman volunteered to take him in and the pup, now named Vinny, was living a completely new life.
You could tell that he wasn’t quite used to it, but it didn’t take him long to settle in because he really loved his new mom. The two of them got along great.
However, just as his new owner thought that everything was going smoothly, Vinny started having seizures. She didn’t know about his medical past.
His new mom immediately started treating him with medication. She couldn’t predict the seizures, so the medicine would at least help out a little bit.
Sometimes, he would also have seizures in the morning, and that was a big problem because it was usually followed up by another big seizure.
A Virginia veterinarian did a checkup on him and told his mom that the dog had megaesophagus. The owner had never heard about that.
New Routine To Help Vinny
So, she tried to help him as much as she could. Vinny would sometimes regurgitate food when it got caught in his esophagus.
This was a big problem and it was something he would carry for the rest of his life, so his owner started thinking of ways to help him.
She helped him by forcing him to eat in an elevated position because that would stretch out his neck. He would also have to sit upright after eating for at least thirty minutes, so she would wrap him in a blanket and hold him upright.
Vinny was confused at first, but he got used to it quickly because he was so comfortable. Since his mom came up with these solutions, the dog had not regurgitated at all, and his problems had almost vanished.
Vinny has changed his mom’s life completely. Even though she has to take care of him constantly, he is also very attentive and takes care of his mom when she needs him the most.
The two of them go on road trips together and it’s all a big adventure for Vinny because he gets to explore places he has never seen before.
It’s really beautiful to see the amazing bond they have. It shows that a dog is more than just a pet. They are a part of the family and we have to always take care of them, no matter what.
