Dogs left behind are always a heartbreaking sight. They shut down emotionally, withdraw from the world, and the pain they feel is just overwhelming.
For many abandoned dogs, it takes a lot of time to heal.
And if one dog knew what it’s like to feel that pain, it’s definitely Zeus. After being surrendered to a Georgia shelter, he became completely shut off from the world. Zeus refused to walk, interact, or even move from his kennel.
Luckily, with the help of kind-hearted people, Zeus’s journey was far from over.
Heartbreaking Sight

Zeus’s world crashed down the minute his family left him behind. To make matters more heartbreaking, the only thing they said was that Zeus was great with kids, and that was about it.
With little to go on, the staff did their best to care for Zeus. One of the volunteers, Bruna, who goes by the name @sharing.lov on Instagram, spent every day with the pup, trying to help him come out of his shell. Sadly, Zeus refused to budge.
“This sweet boy was surrendered by his owner and now refuses to leave his kennel. Walks? He won’t go. Life? He’s lost the joy in it,” Bruna wrote in the post.

Zeus wouldn’t lift his head. He wouldn’t even try to move when Bruna attempted to take him out. His heartbreak was so big that it seemed to erase any will to live.
But then, a glimmer of hope emerged. A local dog rescue in Georgia, called Shelters and Shelves Rescue, heard about Zeus’s story, and immediately decided to do something about it.
Camille and Leslie, the founders, reached out to the shelter and made arrangements to rescue him. Before long, Zeus was rewarded with a nice foster home.
“He didn’t want to move or even lift his head. But that day, I sat with him and gave him love… and soon after, @sheltersandshelvesrescue stepped in and gave him his first Freedom Ride to safety and healing,” Bruna added.

After exactly a month in a new environment, Zeus transformed into a brand-new dog.
He started interacting with people, wagging his tail, and even playing. To watch Zeus become the dog he was meant to be was beyond rewarding.
And, just when everyone thought Zeus’s situation would take a steady road for a while, something incredible happened.
A New Beginning For Zeus

The family, who lived in Missouri, learned Zeus’s story, and immediately knew they had to be the ones to adopt him. After a 10-hour drive to Georgia, the family had a meet-and-greet with Zeus, and it was love at first sight!
“Zeus got his second Freedom Ride… to Missouri. This family saw his story and they just knew, they were going to try everything to heal his broken heart. They drove more than 10 hours to adopt him and now this is it!! He is where he belongs,” Bruna shared in another post.

Now, Zeus lives in a home filled with love with a Beagle sibling, and he couldn’t be happier!
He plays, cuddles with his loved ones, enjoys nature, and goes on endless adventures with his new family. He’s finally happy!
