For dogs who have been abandoned, the shift from a once-comfortable home to the loud and crowded space of a shelter can feel overwhelming.
Think of the heartbreak for a pup who loses his favorite person, only to be surrounded by unfamiliar noises, strange faces, and a heavy cloud of uncertainty.
In those moments, the staff and volunteers at shelters become the only source of comfort for these frightened animals.
One of those dogs, a Pittie mix named Andy Cohen, was in desperate need of that reassurance.
Andy Cohen’s Story

Andy Cohen may be a name known for radio and television, but another Andy Cohen, a sweet Pittie mix, ended up at Tift County Animal Shelter in Tifton, Georgia, after his owner could no longer care for him.
Andy arrived with three other dogs. His previous owner, who had gone back to life on the road as a truck driver, admitted that he could no longer care for his pets.
“They were heartbroken when they arrived, all huddled together and scared. Andy Cohen was shy, crying and feeling abandoned,” Leah Robinson, rescue coordinator at the shelter, said in an interview.
Hoping to inspire fostering and adoption, the shelter shared a video showing Andy searching for comfort from staff members.
Clearly scared and uncertain, Andy wrapped himself around a worker’s leg, unwilling to release his grip. His urgent need for affection moved everyone who watched the recording.
In the widely shared clip, the gentle Pittie presses against the worker as she strokes his back, his sorrowful eyes quietly revealing a story filled with heartbreak.
A Chance At A New Life
Because of the stress and fear Andy was experiencing, the shelter decided he needed a fresh start. He was transferred to their sister organization in New York City, Waldo’s Rescue Pen, where he would get a chance at a better future.
“We wanted him to have a fresh start with a family that loves him,” Robinson said.
And that’s exactly what happened.

When Waldo’s Rescue Pen released Andy’s video, social media was filled with heartbreak. Countless people were touched by his story, and before long, a family came forward to offer him the home he had been waiting for.
Now called Buddy, this once-fearful pup is enjoying a happy life with his new family in New York.
“He is now named Buddy and living his best life with his family in NY. We are so happy for Buddy and his family! Thank you for choosing Waldo’s Rescue,” the rescue wrote in their update.
From trembling and clinging for comfort to wagging his tail inside a loving home, Buddy’s journey shows the true impact of kindness.
Best of all, he now has a furry companion to share his days with.
To Buddy’s new family, thank you for giving this sweet boy the love and stability he always hoped for.
