When dogs are left behind, their emotional world is often ignored. The confusion and fear that follow can be crushing, and a young puppy named Roxy came to understand that far too early in life.
At only eight weeks old, Roxy was set inside a cardboard box and abandoned. She tucked herself into a small ball, uncertain of what was happening, waiting for something—anything—to be different.
Small and defenseless, she could only hope that someone kind would come along and bring comfort to her lonely, uncertain world.
The Start Of A New Journey
A resident in Pennsylvania noticed a cardboard box sitting in front of their home. What caught their attention was the writing on the outside.
“The caller reported there was a box in front of their home labeled ‘free puppy,’” Sara Hornbeck, the director of East Coast Bulldog Rescue, told The Dodo.
Curious, the person opened the box to find Roxy’s wide, innocent eyes looking up at them.
The moment Roxy saw the person’s face, she seemed to relax, as if she knew that she was finally safe.
The resident quickly contacted Animal Control, and the officers arrived to take Roxy to the local shelter where she would begin her recovery.
A Second Chance With Rescue
East Coast Bulldog Rescue, a volunteer organization based in Pittsburgh, heard about Roxy’s plight and wasted no time in offering help.
When the team met Roxy, they were immediately drawn to her gentle nature.
Despite being abandoned, she was affectionate and loving, leaving everyone surprised that anyone could abandon such a sweet pup.
“Once we picked her up from the animal control kennel, we quickly discovered she was the sweetest, most lovable girl and was surprisingly in good shape for a puppy that had been discarded like trash,” said Sara Hornbeck, director of the rescue.
Though Roxy was unsure at first, she gradually relaxed as the rescuers offered her comfort and kindness. She was soon on her way to her new beginning.
Roxy Finds Her Forever Home
It didn’t take long for Roxy’s story to find the right person.
A woman who had recently lost her beloved dog, Junie Bug, saw Roxy’s story online and immediately felt a connection. She knew Roxy was the perfect fit for her family.
Roxy’s new family believed she would be an excellent companion for their dog, Murphy, who had been feeling lonely. And just like that, Roxy’s life took a wonderful turn.
A Happy Ending
Today, Roxy is in a home where she is cherished, safe, and surrounded by love.
She no longer has to wonder what happened to her or fear being abandoned. Her journey from being left in a box to finding a loving home is complete.
