Lenore Retreats Into Herself After Rescue
Lenore had endured a lifetime of misfortune. At 12 years old, she had never known what it felt like to be part of a family or to live in a home filled with warmth and care.
Her future looked bleak until a group of rescuers in Georgia stepped in, determined to offer her a second chance.
Labrador Friends of the South welcomed Lenore into their care, hoping she would begin to heal and open up. But instead of blossoming, she retreated into herself.
She entered her kennel and immediately curled into a corner, avoiding contact. Her rescuers hadn’t realized just how deeply affected she was.
Helping Lenore recover would require far more than basic care. During a trip to the vet, she panicked and tried to flee.
Her fear of people was overwhelming. It was clear she had endured mistreatment in her past.
The veterinary team tried to comfort her, but her condition was more serious than they had anticipated.
Medical Issues Surface
Lenore was diagnosed with an ear infection, worn and damaged teeth, and rough patches of skin. While all of these issues could be treated, her recovery would take time.
She needed someone who could care for her with patience and kindness, someone who understood how fragile she was.
After searching, the Georgia rescue team found a foster mom who was willing to provide a quiet, nurturing space for Lenore.
To help soothe her, the foster mom played classical music. At first, she wasn’t sure it was helping. But slowly, subtle changes began to appear.
Lenore accepted cheese from her foster mom’s hand. A week later, she took another step forward and walked out of her crate.
Previously, she wouldn’t sleep with her head facing outward. That changed too. She even began to wag her tail, just slightly.
Her foster mom remained hopeful, watching each small sign of progress with care. She continues to take things slowly, allowing her to move at her own pace.
Each day brings a new milestone, however small. The hope is that Lenore will eventually be ready to find a permanent home with someone who understands her journey. For now, Lenore remains in foster care, surrounded by people who are committed to her healing.
