Sometimes people forget that dogs don’t just see us as caretakers. To them, we are their whole world, their best friend and source of comfort.
They grow deeply attached, and even being left alone for a short time can make them anxious. So when they are abandoned completely, their heartbreak is unimaginable.
Sadly, the little pup in this story learned that pain firsthand.
Stranded On A Busy Freeway
Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, has rescued countless animals throughout her career, yet each case still feels just as emotional as the first.
So when she received a report about a small dog who had been dumped on a crowded freeway, she knew she had to move fast.
She immediately called her friend Arturo for backup, and together they set out late that night to try to save him.
The scene that greeted them was both heartbreaking and dangerous.
The freeway was packed with cars speeding past, and the frightened puppy was frozen in place. A nearby homeless man told them that ever since being abandoned, the dog had not moved from that spot, as if he was waiting for his family to return.
Hall and Arturo realized that one wrong move could cause the terrified pup to bolt straight into traffic.
“I honestly could not have done this rescue by myself. And I am so thankful to Arturo for being there with me and for helping me. One wrong move and he would have run into the oncoming traffic,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
A Delicate And Dangerous Rescue
Knowing how risky the situation was, the rescuers had to get it right the first time. They quickly came up with a plan.
Using items they found nearby: a mattress, pieces of wood, and some boxes, they created a makeshift enclosure to corner the pup safely.
With patience and teamwork, they slowly guided him inside. When the frightened dog tried to escape, Arturo held his ground to block the way.
“After a lot of struggle and Arturo holding up the area he was trying to escape from I finally got him in my snare,” Hall shared.
The moment they secured him, relief washed over both rescuers.
They carried him carefully to their car and headed straight to the vet, grateful that the little dog now had a second chance at life.
A New Beginning For Chance
Because the rescue had been so intense, Hall knew exactly what to name him.
“This wasn’t easy, his life was in our hands but we took a chance and that is why we named him Chance,” she wrote.
After everything he had endured, the veterinary team treated him to a much-needed spa day. By the end, he looked healthier, cleaner, and happier than ever.
Thanks to two rescuers who refused to give up, Chance now has a safe and hopeful future ahead of him.
Their bravery turned a heartbreaking night into a story of survival and love.
