Watching someone abandon a pet is always painful, yet a recent incident in Arizona struck an especially deep chord with viewers. The moment captured on video left many people shaken.
Footage shared on Facebook showed a woman leaving a dog behind in a residential neighborhood in Surprise, Arizona, sparking widespread anger online.
In the video, a red SUV moves slowly through a quiet cul de sac. As the vehicle turns, the woman opens the back door and drops a small black and white dog onto the pavement.
Before pulling away, she casually says “bye bye,” leaving the stunned animal standing alone.
A Bystander Takes Action
Despite the harsh treatment, the dog instinctively ran after the vehicle, desperate for his owner to turn back and reconsider.
That afternoon, Joanna Buesen was walking her dog when she witnessed the heartbreaking moment.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” she told Arizona Family.
Seeing the abandoned dog, still trying to follow the person who had just left him, Buesen called out to him with kindness.
Upon hearing her voice, the scared pup ran toward her, seeking safety and comfort.
Buesen took the dog home, gave him food, and made sure he felt secure. Animal control arrived soon after to care for the dog.
Shaken by the incident, Buesen condemned the woman’s cruel actions, particularly the cold farewell caught on camera.
“I think that they had no remorse for their actions, and I think that is the telltale that it is malicious intent. I understand things are hard and things can be tough in life, but you don’t have to be a soulless human. And that is just a soulless thing,” Buesen said.
Authorities Investigate The Case
Local authorities quickly became involved after the video was reported.
The SUV’s license plate was clearly visible, giving law enforcement a solid lead.
FOX 10 Phoenix later reported that the individuals responsible were identified.
A man and a woman, who were the dog’s owners, came forward and are now facing charges for animal cruelty.
The dog was taken to a nearby shelter, where he will soon be available for adoption.
With hope, this brave dog will find a loving home, where he will finally receive the care and protection he deserves.
