Baby Langur Plays With Broom In Camp

By Paul Thomas 12/29/2025

A day out in the sun can be fun for the whole family, especially when there’s an unexpected broom to keep the kids busy, so that the parents and the older siblings can have a bit of a rest.

Rachel Chapman came across these two playful baby langur monkeys in India, and after catching them on camera she sent the footage to Latest Sightings.

Life must be endlessly exciting for these tiny monkeys, especially when they’re surrounded by so many interesting things to distract them, and give them cause to play games.

Family Fun Day

Although it’s unclear exactly where they are, the langur monkeys appeared to be perfectly happy milling around beneath some shade. It appeared to be a family of the monkeys, with a mix of adults, teenagers and two tiny little babies which had noticeably darker fur.

The broom that had caught so much of its attention was lying on the ground, potentially discarded, but it must have been a slow day for the langurs, as several of them had taken an interest in it.

As the smallest ones present, the baby monkeys apparently had to learn their place in the hierarchy, and one of the older monkeys pushed the baby down to the ground so it didn’t interrupt their investigation of the broom.

This didn’t take long though, and after sitting patiently by an adult, the two baby langurs were allowed to move in and play with the broom themselves.

Not A Single Inkling Of A Plan

The only problem was that, much like the older monkeys that came before them, the two baby langurs had absolutely no idea what to really do with the broom, and there were other, potentially more interesting diversions nearby.

One of the babies abandoned the broom quite quickly, hurrying off to the next thing, while the other stayed with it a bit longer, determined to try and figure out something it could do with the broom.

It spent a few minutes flicking the twigs that made up the brush of the broom, likely just enjoying how springy they were, before eventually it too lost interest.

With the broom largely forgotten for the moment, the two baby monkeys began wrestling, which was much more fun with an immediate enjoyment factor, rather than the pesky broom.

Back To The Broom

Despite the fact that wrestling offered more immediate satisfaction for the baby langurs in need of exercise, the broom remained unobtrusively laying on the ground, and was still interesting to them by virtue of the fact that they had no idea what what it actually was.

It wasn’t just the young monkeys that were taking an interest in the broom, as one of the langurs, likely a teenager, or just a very small adult, had also taken an interest in it at the same time, by studiously chewing on the handle.

The baby was more interested in the bundle of sticks that made up the brush, so this time they didn’t get in each other’s way. Whether the langurs managed to come up with a game using the broom or not remains unknown, but they were giving it their best shot.
