Kimber and Pennies were left to fend for themselves after losing the only home they had ever known. Alone on the streets of California, the two dogs wandered through neighborhoods searching for scraps of food and a safe place to rest.
Eventually, they stumbled upon a pile of discarded furniture. Among the trash sat an old dresser, and the pair curled up inside it, trying to shield themselves from the cold and uncertainty. Their hearts were heavy with sorrow. They believed no one would ever come for them.
Neighbors Step In To Help Two Abandoned Souls

When residents of the neighborhood noticed the dogs’ heartbreaking condition, they knew they had to act.
“[T]hese babies were so matted, so filthy, and one of them … had patches of skin just gone. No one knew where they came from. No one came looking,” Suzette Hall wrote on Facebook.
The neighbors tried to coax the dogs out, but Kimber and Pennies were too frightened to leave the only shelter they had found. Still, the kind residents made sure the dogs had food and water while they waited for help.
They reached out to Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, known for her experience rescuing fearful dogs.
As soon as Hall received the call, she rushed to the scene and began trying to approach the pair.
Rescue Brings Hope To Two Frightened Dogs

When Hall arrived, Kimber and Pennies didn’t flee. Instead, they froze in place, signaling their fear and uncertainty.
Hall refused to give up. She spoke gently to them, offering comfort and reassurance with every word.

Eventually, she managed to guide them into a nearby yard. There, she secured them with leashes and gently lifted them into her car.
As she held them close, their eyes began to shine with hope. It was as if they knew their lives were about to change.

Hall was determined to give them the life they deserved.
“They are not trash. They are worthy. And from this moment forward, their lives will reflect that,” Hall added.
Healing Begins As They Prepare For A New Life

Kimber and Pennies were taken to the veterinarian for a full examination and testing.
The results revealed that both dogs were suffering from scabies. Because the condition is contagious, they had to be separated and kept in isolation during treatment.

Being apart was painful for the bonded pair, and their caregivers felt the heartbreak too.
“They didn’t ask for any of this …They just want to feel safe, loved and healthy again,” Hall stated.
After several weeks of care, both dogs made a full recovery.

Their reunion was deeply emotional. Kimber and Pennies ran to each other, tails wagging wildly, sniffing and nuzzling as if making up for lost time.
They were then placed in a loving foster home.

Now thriving, Kimber and Pennies are ready to begin the search for their forever family. Their rescuers hope they’ll be adopted together, so they never have to be apart again.
May these two resilient dogs find the home they’ve always dreamed of, with people who will cherish them every day.
