Rescues can be pretty tough sometimes. Most people assume that it’s as simple as finding a dog or cat on the street and then taking it to the shelter.
But this does not account for the fact that sometimes animals can get in trouble and they can’t survive without our help.
They can get stuck somewhere like on a fence or between rocks. We’ve certainly covered topics like this. And this makes rescues really difficult.
When firefighters from California received a call about a dog who was stuck in a canal, they immediately reacted and rushed to the rescue.
Shocking Rescue

It happened just as the Good Samaritan was walking by a canal. The person saw an animal who was struggling in the water.
The Good Samaritan immediately called rescuers for help, and the Redwood City Fire Department arrived to help.
Fire captain Chris Clow examined the area with his drone, and he was able to find the struggling animal. They got close and realized that it was actually a dog.

Then, he contacted the rescue crew who were near the canal and instructed them where to go in order to find the pup.
The rescuers noticed that he was swimming away when people got close to him. He was probably just really scared. So, they kept their distance and tried to guide him back to the land.
Clow told The Dodo: “Once the boat arrived on scene and the drone was above the dog, he began to swim away from both of them toward the shore. I was able to keep the drone close enough that the dog stayed near the shore and didn’t swim back out.”
The Dog Was Reunited With His Family

Shortly after, a rescuer carefully approached the dog and tried grabbing him. He looked scared, but he knew this person just wanted to help. The pup was then pulled out of the water and to safety.
San Mateo County Animal Control took over the case and then took the pup to the shelter where he received medical help.
The firefighters and the rescuers were glad to see how everything turned out so great for the dog. The animal control staff members contacted the dog’s family and told them that he was safe.

Shortly after, a heartwarming reunion happened, and it was really wholesome to witness. Clow noted that he wishes for this story to ensure that more people watch out for their dogs and lock the gates so something like this wouldn’t happen.
He ended by saying: “The coordination between the ground crews, the boat and the drone is something we train for. We are thankful that we were able to put that training to use in this situation to save the dog’s life.”
