When we take a moment to truly observe the world around us, we often witness heartbreaking scenes of abandoned dogs struggling to survive. These moments are almost always the result of human cruelty, which can feel limitless at times.
One of the most painful examples unfolded in San Dimas, California. That day, a local worker heard desperate cries echoing in the distance and felt compelled to investigate.
The sound guided him through a business park until he reached a dumpster. As the cries grew louder, his heart filled with dread.
Peering inside, he was met with a sight that would stay with him forever.
Three Puppies Fighting To Survive

Inside the dumpster, the employee found three tiny German Shepherd puppies, discarded and left to suffer. The shocking discovery was later shared in the a Facebook post in the ‘Lost and Found Pets of La Verne and San Dimas’ Facebook group.
“Hi All, An employee found these dogs in the trash at 949 cataract San Dimas at a business park, animal control is not open. Can anyone help? I am up in Northern California and can’t do anything.” an employee’s colleague Linda Denise Valdez wrote.
She explained that the employee couldn’t assist further because “he himself lives in a motel and has no transportation.” At that moment, the puppies were starving, dehydrated, and in urgent need of help.

Thankfully, the group’s administrator, Carolyn Castro, saw the post and decided to act, even though she too needed support.
“I picked them up they do not have a chip. I really need someone with a larger area and kennel to foster them. Poor babies were starving and thirsty. Please message me.” she wrote in another Facebook post.
Despite the challenges, the right people came together quickly, and help arrived just in time.
A Rescue That Brought Hope

Thanks to the overwhelming response from the community, the puppies were soon safe.
In an interview for KTLA, Carolyn said she “picked up the dogs from the employee and brought them to get medical attention.” She also noted that Big Dog Haven joined the effort to help nurse the puppies back to health.
Later, Linda provided an update confirming the puppies had been transferred to Village Mutt, in Claremont, California, where they would continue their recovery.
“I’m thrilled to announce that the dogs are safe and sound, thanks to the incredible efforts of *Carolyn* and the amazing people at *Village Mutt*!” Linda wrote in her update post.

In her final message, she thanked everyone who stepped up: “A huge thank you to everyone for your unwavering support and concern. These beautiful pups have been rescued and are now in loving hands.”
While many people played a role in saving the puppies, it’s important to remember the man who first chose to follow the cries and look inside the dumpster.
His decision to act, rather than walk away, changed everything. In a world that can often feel indifferent, it’s people like him who quietly remind us that compassion still exists.
