When I think about the most difficult moments in dog rescue, one truth always stands out: rescuers have extraordinary hearts. They face heartbreaking situations day after day yet somehow find the strength to keep going.
Suzette Hall, a passionate rescuer from California, knows this struggle all too well. After witnessing countless moments of loss and hope, she continues to fight for every animal in need. But some days weigh heavier than others, days that leave lasting scars.
This was one of those days.
A Desperate Race To Save Nesquik

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, received a call about a small dog named Nesquik who had been hit by a car. Without hesitation, she rushed to the scene.
What she found broke her heart.
“He was hit by a car and the lady kept going. He rolled 7 times. When I picked him up I held him in my lap and he cried the whole way to my vet,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

Time was critical. Fighting back tears, Hall drove straight to the hospital, hoping he could be saved.
The news from the veterinarians was grim. Nesquik’s pelvis was shattered, and he was in severe pain. The team immediately began administering IV fluids and pain medication, but surgery would be his only hope.
For several days, Hall and her team stayed by his side, watching for any sign of improvement. Then, for a brief moment, hope returned.
Nesquik managed to sit up on his own. He ate with appetite, and most importantly, he responded when his legs were pinched, a sign that paralysis had not set in.
“His swelling has come down. He has been on fluids and anti-inflammatories. He is able to sit up now. This sweet baby will have his surgery Friday morning. We believe in miracles,” Hall shared in one of her updates.
No one realized that the hardest moment was still ahead.
A Tragic Turn

Surgery went forward, and the team carefully repaired Nesquik’s damaged pelvis. But despite their tireless efforts, his little body could not recover.
An infection spread rapidly, attacking his internal organs. After enduring so much, Nesquik’s fragile body gave out.
“We were able to repair his shattered pelvis and all the damage the car did to his body, but the infection was more than medicine could treat,” Hall explained.
Despite all the love and care poured into his recovery, Nesquik crossed the rainbow bridge. His rescuers were devastated.
A Life Remembered

The loss was heartbreaking. Nesquik had so much love left to give, but life was cruelly unfair to him. His story serves as a painful reminder of how many dogs face danger every day through no fault of their own.
Even though his life was short, Nesquik will never be forgotten. The people who tried to save him gave him love, comfort, and dignity until his final moments.
“We love you. We wanted more for you. We gave all we had for you and your little body said: ‘Enough is Enough.’ Thank you for fighting for it. We will not forget you,” Hall wrote in her farewell.
Rest peacefully, sweet Nesquik. Your bravery and spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who tried to save you.
