Colorado Pup Wanders Into The Kitchen And Sets Off A Chain Of Events His Family Never Saw Coming

Curiosity usually gets credited to cats, the quiet explorers who seem determined to investigate every hidden corner. They tend to earn the reputation for getting into places they probably should avoid.

This time, though, the troublemaker was not a cat at all. A dog in Colorado let his curiosity lead the way as he roamed through the house one morning, checking out every space along the way.

Everything seemed harmless until he reached the kitchen, where one unexpected moment almost placed his entire family in danger.

A Paw On The Stove Ignites Chaos

While exploring the kitchen, the pup noticed several boxes resting on the stovetop. Convinced they might contain something delicious, he stood on his hind legs like a little human and sniffed at them.

In the process, one of his paws accidentally nudged a stove knob, turning it on.

As the burner heated, the boxes caught fire. Startled by the sudden flames, the pup ran from the kitchen in fear.

Fortunately, the family had an Apple HomePod that instantly sent a “High Heat” alert, waking them immediately.

One of the owners rushed to investigate and was met with the alarming sight of flames spreading across the kitchen.

He grabbed a fire extinguisher and managed to put out the fire before calling the Colorado Police Department.

Crews Arrive To Investigate The Scorched Kitchen

“Upon investigation, crews did not find any active fire but did find evidence of a fire. The male homeowner was able to extinguish the fire before crews got there but was later transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported to people or pets,” the Colorado Springs Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Curious to understand what had sparked the fire, the family reviewed their security footage, which revealed the full incident.

“We determined their pup got a bit curious and accidentally switched on the oven, which had some boxes on top of it,” they added.

Thankfully, nobody was injured, and the incident became a strong reminder to keep items off the stovetop.

The fire department used the situation to provide essential safety guidance: incidents like this can be avoided with the right precautions.

“This is a good reminder to always have working smoke alarms inside and outside every sleeping area and on every floor of the home, ensure all combustibles are away from your stovetop/oven, and know two ways out of every room in your home in the event of a fire,” they concluded. It was a relief that both the pup and his family escaped unharmed that day. Still, it’s likely the little dog learned one lesson on his own: curiosity is better left to cats.
