Some moments begin as ordinary and end up changing everything. One calm afternoon in Connecticut, a woman was driving along a quiet, tree-lined road when something unusual near the curb caught her eye.
At first, it looked like an old laundry basket, filled with tangled blankets and a faded bath mat. Then the pile moved slightly, and a pair of frightened eyes peeked through one of the holes. Her heart sank.
The woman became worried. The basket sat alone on the damp roadside, far from any houses or people. It was clear that whatever was inside had been left there on purpose, and it needed help fast.
The Secret Hidden In The Laundry Basket

Driving down Long Cove Road in Ledyard, Connecticut, she pulled over to take a closer look. The basket appeared to be discarded clutter.
Then, as it moved again, a tiny nose peeked through the hole, and she knew she had to act.
Once she lifted the blankets, the woman discovered two terrified cats curled together. They had been abandoned with no food, no water and no shelter.
The moment the cats saw the kind-hearted woman, they sighed in relief. They hoped she would help them.
From Fear To Comfort

Shortly after, Heather Haddon, Animal Control Officer from Ledyard Animal Control, arrived at the scene.
“My initial reaction was sadness. I felt an instant feeling of disappointment and sadness when I saw them in the laundry basket. The cats were clearly terrified,” she told The Dodo.
Despite their ordeal, the cats were gentle and loving, which made the rescuers believe that they once had a home.
A New Beginning Awaits

Haddon and her team gently coaxed the cats out and brought them to safety.
“They have been extremely friendly from the start. They purr almost immediately with any attention given. They’re eating, using their litter box, and happily lie in together in their bed,” she said.

The pair awaits veterinary exams at Ledyard Animal Control.
If nobody claims them, they will be up for adoption. Staff members hope they can stay together since their bond has remained strong through it all.

“I have high hopes these two will be adopted, and I will be sure to keep them together…These two cats will have no problem finding their forever home,” Haddon shared.
Thanks to the Good Samaritan who stopped and made the call, these cats were given a second chance at life.
