When Layla and Lola arrived at their local shelter, they made an unspoken promise to stay together until someone finally adopted them.
It did not take long before a family took them home, but their happiness was short-lived.
The sweet sisters were returned to the shelter two more times. Each time they came back, it became even clearer that the only family they could truly count on was each other.
Their story took a turn for the better when Humans and Animals United (HAAU) learned about their situation and decided to step in.
Rescue Steps In To Help
Rosa Fond, the founder of this Florida-based rescue organization, immediately took action to help the bonded pair.
She raised emergency funds to remove them from the shelter and began searching for a foster family that could care for both dogs together.
Fond’s compassion went beyond saving them from the shelter. She gave Layla and Lola the chance to start over.
When HAAU volunteers arrived to pick up the two sisters, their joy multiplied as they watched the dogs react with excitement.
“Seeing them leave the shelter [that] kept them safe until we arrived brings tears to our eyes. The girls have a new beginning, and this time, it will be a forever happily ever after!” HAAU wrote on Facebook.
Their emotional rescue was captured on video and shared online, showing the sisters wagging their tails and greeting their rescuers with happiness.

Thank you for helping us save these girls! It wasn’t an easy task as we had to work through a holiday weekend but we did it!!!!! Layla and Lola are now at the vet. They have found a foster home where they will be transported to once cleared medically. We are looking forward to seeing these girls decompress, play and have their 1st night sleep. We cannot thank everyone enough for yet again being part of saving these lives who need us the most! 🥺 Their Story…. 🚨‼️ RESCUE ONLY!!!!! Being Euthanized is not rescued. Shelter has been blasting for help for a while without anyone stepping up. Layla and Lola are on their 3rd trip to Rockdale AC in Conyers GA. The owner has reclaimed them reluctantly 2 times and each time they come back in worse shape than before. We believe he is only reclaiming to avoid citations😳😡 Lola is 62 pounds and Layla is 65 pounds and both are heart worm negative and about 2 years old. NEED TO BE FULLY VETTED, SKIN ISSUES, ABCESS ON NECK ON ONE OF THEM, EAR INFECTION ON ANOTHER. They seem to be lab hound mixes and are sweet with people and good with other dogs. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE RESCUE THESE GIRLS TO SAVE THEM??? We do not believe the owner will reclaim this time. Rockdale County Ga #AC1291 #AC1804 ❤️🐾 Thank you all for your continued support in our rescue mission 🐾❤️ #HumansandAnimalUnited #georgia #animalrescue #rosafond #humansandanimalsunited #coralsprings #savinglives #rescuedogsoftiktok #HAAU #rockdalecounty #fosterssavelives #florida
Afterward, the volunteers brought Layla and Lola to a veterinary clinic for a complete checkup. Once the vet confirmed that both were healthy, they were taken to HAAU’s rescue center to meet the other animals.
A Home That Fits Them Both
Since the pair shared a strong bond, they needed a foster home that could provide love and care for two.
“They are bonded. We would never [separate] them. They need [and] depend on each other. [It’s] the only way to do right by these girls,” HAAU wrote in a comment on Facebook.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted family stepped forward to foster both sisters. Layla and Lola quickly settled in and showed how happy they were to stay together.
“As promised, these girls have been kept together. Fully vetted, they are settling in perfectly at their foster home,” HAAU wrote on Facebook.
When the time comes, the sisters will find their forever home where they can live side by side.
For now, they are thriving in their foster home, surrounded by people who give them love, care, and safety.
“They are definitely lucky girls,” HAAU wrote in a Facebook comment.
