Peanut butter quickly became the key to his heart. Before long, Charlie was snuggling beside Livia and drifting off to sleep with his head resting on her shoulder.
Livia soon noticed one of his most endearing habits: his eye contact.
“He will come over to you on the couch and just look at you straight in the eyes while you’re petting him. It’s kind of arresting, like he can just see into your soul,” she said.
Charlie also revealed impeccable manners. He never snatched food from the floor and always waited patiently before climbing onto the couch for a nap.
Facing Health Challenges With Strength
Routine veterinary visits revealed that Charlie had a few health concerns, including a condition that caused his back legs to drag slightly when he ran. He also required several teeth to be removed.
Although Charlie tends to avoid other dogs after a difficult encounter in the neighborhood, his love for people is undeniable.
“So long as he is in the apartment, he brings the toy to see every new person that comes in. He wants to show off his toys, so it’s very cute,” Livia said.
Despite everything he had endured, Charlie never lost his gentle spirit. Many dogs in his situation struggle to trust again, but he chose love over fear.
A Bond That Transformed Two Lives
For Livia, bringing Charlie home has been nothing short of life-changing.
“I have depression and getting Charlie was the best thing for that because I leave the house every morning. I have to walk outside and I feel like I have a purpose when I am with him,” she shared.
Their journey proves that rescue works both ways. Charlie may have been saved by Livia, but in many ways, he saved her too.
