All Sweet Potato ever wanted was love and care, and a person to call her own. Instead, she was left behind in a Florida park, forced to endure hunger and exhaustion on her own.
By the time help arrived, her tiny body was failing.
Animal control officers eventually managed to catch her, but her condition was so poor that she was labeled “untreatable.” Sweet Potato was added to the euthanasia list, and it looked as if her short life would soon be over.
Battling A Failing Body

Sweet Potato was taken to Broward County Animal Services in Florida, where staff immediately saw how serious her condition was. She was severely underweight, dehydrated, and weak. Her ribs visible through her thin skin.
Her gentle personality hinted that she had once known a home, which made her abandonment even more tragic.
Because her medical issues required extensive care that the shelter couldn’t provide, Sweet Potato’s future seemed sealed. She was scheduled for euthanasia, and time was running out.

Then, a glimmer of hope appeared when Tri-County Animal Rescue in Florida stepped in.
The rescue team reviewed her case and immediately decided to take her in. They knew she was critically ill and needed urgent treatment if she was going to survive.
“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

Sweet Potato was transported to a veterinary hospital for intensive care. Her wide, pleading eyes said everything: she wasn’t ready to give up, and neither was her new team of rescuers.
A Fighter With A Gentle Soul

Sweet Potato’s determination amazed everyone who met her. Despite her pain, she stayed calm and trusting as the vets worked to save her.
Her treatment involved IV fluids, specialized nutrition, anti-inflammatory medication, and continuous monitoring. X-rays and ultrasounds revealed the full extent of her injuries, but she faced every challenge with quiet strength.
During a particularly difficult period, when her condition took a sharp turn, the hospital director even took her home overnight to ensure she received constant care.
Thanks to that dedication, and Sweet Potato’s incredible will to live, her health slowly began to improve.

Now, she’s stable and growing stronger each day. Her recovery is ongoing, but her personality is already shining through. She’s learning to trust again, wagging her tail, and soaking up affection from everyone around her.
“Day by day, she’s regaining her strength, her trust, and her joy. Her wagging tail and loving personality are proof that hope can triumph over hardship,” the rescue wrote.
Once she’s fully healed, Sweet Potato will be ready for adoption and for the family she’s always deserved.
Her journey proves that even when life seems hopeless, compassion and care can make all the difference.
Be safe, Sweet Potato. Your happy ending is coming soon.
