There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing a dog who is so scared after years of abuse and neglect. So many of them will crawl into a corner and just stare at a wall.
They do this to show that they are not a threat to anyone, and because they want to isolate themselves from everyone as much as possible.
It is hard to show them that their fear does not apply to all humans. There are those who care for animals, and they try to help these scared pups whenever possible.
In the case of this dog from Georgia, she was living in a Fulton County Animal Services shelter, but she was so reserved and scared that she had to be carried pretty much everywhere. Her story is shocking.
Why Is She So Scared?
When Merve first met Tiya, her heart broke because she saw how terrified this pup was. She would visibly shake all the time, and this was really sad.
She had to be carried to the bathroom or otherwise she wouldn’t go by herself. Even though she didn’t mind being around other dogs, she was also extremely reserved around them.
Tiya almost never played with them and this made it difficult for her to find a new home. She needed real help in order to heal.
She was around twelve years old, so it made it even more difficult for her to find a proper home. When Tiya was first found, she wasn’t alone.
There were two more dogs with her and a kind woman tried to save them, but they were all scared. She tried to get their trust, but her neighbor made it difficult.
He complained that he would hurt the dogs unless the woman got rid of them somehow, so she naturally called for rescuers to help.
They were able to catch two of them, but one of the dogs was still out there. Tiya was really distraught after being brought to a shelter in Georgia.
Tiya’s Sudden Transformation
Merve tried to help Tiya when she got to the shelter, because she was in an at-risk group. She was a senior, and her quality of life was just terrible.
Even though she had a roof over her, food, and proper care, she was just too scared to do anything. Merve was able to gain her trust a little bit, so she wanted to take her outside for a bit.
She noticed that something strange had happened. Tiya was coming out of her shell. She was outside with four other people and was walking around them and even sniffing them.
This had never happened before. She would rarely interact with anyone in that way. So, Merve created a reel to help highlight this change in her.
Shortly after that, a kind woman reached out to her and offered to foster Tiya, which she accepted. In her new home, everything changed.
Her tail was starting to wag, and she was no longer so scared of everything. It’s like a miracle happened in such a short amount of time.
This might not seem like much, but it’s a big step in the right direction. If she learns how to overcome her fears, it increases her chances of adoption, and that’s what everyone at the shelter is hoping for. I hope she finds a forever home soon.
