Illinois Woman Thinks She Adopted A Goldie, Until She Finds Out What She Really Got

When someone mentions a “Golden Retriever,” most people picture a joyful, floppy-eared dog bounding through fields, splashing in lakes, or showing off its intelligence with perfectly learned tricks.

Those are the traits everyone expects from this beloved breed. But for one Illinois woman, her “Golden Retriever” turned out to be a complete surprise, and not at all the dog she imagined.

A Golden Retriever Like No Other

When Kylie adopted her Golden Retriever, Oakley, she expected an active, outdoorsy companion who’d love long walks and adventure. It didn’t take long to realize that Oakley had a very different idea of fun.

Sure, he had all the looks: the shiny golden coat, the sweet expression, and the friendly charm typical of his breed. But instead of fetching balls or chasing butterflies, Oakley had another passion: the TV.

He loves his tv time 😭 #goldenretriever #puppy #fyp #dog #ipadkid

Oakley prefers screen time over playtime. He’ll sit in front of the television, growl until Kylie turns it on, and then relax on the couch as if he’s settling in for a movie night.

“When I thought I was getting a Golden Retriever but got an ipad kid that growls at the tv if I don’t turn it on for him,” Kylie joked in a TikTok video.

The clip quickly went viral, and people everywhere could relate to Oakley’s obsession. It turns out he isn’t the only “iPad kid” in the canine world.

“My golden is the biggest iPad kid I know,” one commenter wrote.

“I swear lab does this until I turn her heated blanket on and the fan… and say get on the ‘big bed’,” another added.

“My Goldendoodle has his own tablet,” a third person admitted.

Oakley doesn’t seem too picky about what’s on the screen. He enjoys everything from Animal Planet to random TV shows, but he does have a favorite: Disney movies. Whenever the Disney intro music starts playing, he becomes visibly excited, tail wagging in delight.

The Lovable Attention Seeker

When he’s not watching TV, Oakley spends his time going on car rides, enjoying treats, or hanging out with his mom. But even on the road, he insists on one rule, holding hands with Kylie as she drives.

Yes, Oakley likes to be the center of attention and has no problem demanding it.

His now-famous “Oakley smirk” has become his signature look, a cheeky grin that perfectly matches his playful personality. Whether it’s intentional or not, the expression seems to say that he knows exactly how adorable he is.

It’s easy to see why everyone falls in love with him.

Oakley may not fit the classic Golden Retriever image that Kylie expected, but he’s undeniably special. Whether he’s lounging in front of a screen or asking for hand-holding mid-drive, Oakley proves that personality is what truly makes a pet unforgettable.

And for anyone lucky enough to share the couch with him? Just remember — belly rubs are the ticket to join the show.
