Here’s what I learned: the hardest part of rescue stories isn’t the beginning or the end. Sometimes, it’s the middle.
One day, years after their adoption, a dog is sleeping in their familiar bed, hearing the soft sounds of home. The next, they’re watching the same family walk away and give them up for good.
Why? Who could tell?
That’s exactly what happened to Remy, a four-year-old American Pitbull mix from Florida. After being adopted as a puppy, Remy’s life changed when his owners decided they no longer had time for him.
Just like that, his whole world, the only one he’d ever known, was gone.
Given Up After Four Years Of Love
The thing that makes Remy truly special is his cheerful spirit. At first glance, he doesn’t even look like a dog with a broken heart.
He’s always smiling, wagging his tail, and looking for a chance to have fun. But deep down, Remy is secretly hoping his old family will return at some point and pick him up. There’s a lot of confusion and loss behind those warm eyes.
In an Instagram post, Remy’s current caregivers at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida, describe him as one of the most lovable dogs ever.
“This big mush of a boy is available for adoption and he’s one of the most lovable goofballs you will meet! Just look at how he melts into those belly rubs,” the description reads.
But despite his friendly personality, Remy has been surrendered after having a home for four years. The reason? His family simply didn’t have time.
“Remy’s family got him as a little pup, but sadly now that he has grown up his owner has no time for him,” the Florida shelter wrote.

The good news is that Remy is as far from bitter as possible.
He greets every single person with the same excitement, and, just like any dog, he has a lot of favorite things: cuddles, playtime, and treats.
Sweet, Playful, Lovable
Even though Remy has adjusted amazingly well to a new life, what he truly needs is someone who can give this sweet boi a forever home.
Remy’s list of wishes is simple: a soft hand, a kind word, and a little bit of affection.
“Remy is a 4-year-old fellow who loves any treats that are peanut butter or bacon! He has lots of spirit, but does settle down after getting some playtime. He gets along with other dogs and kids but has not lived with cats before,” HSBC concluded.
While his family may have said they had no time, Remy’s caregivers know he’s worthy of every second.
Hopefully, one lucky adopter will discover that Remy isn’t just another shelter dog. He’s a best friend waiting to happen!
