When trying to help stray dogs, it’s important to assess the situation correctly. Some of them might be really scared; others can be aggressive.

And then there are those who are really friendly from the beginning. The point is that situations like this require delicate responses because you want a rescue to have the highest chance of success.

Dogs don’t always get rescued. Sometimes they flee as far as possible from the rescuers, and it makes it impossible to save them.

This man from New York showed us how it’s done. He found a scared stray dog living near a tombstone, so he tried to help him.

He Was Hurt By Humans

When Michael Favor first encountered this sweet and scared dog, he saw that the pup had been hiding behind a tombstone.

Something spooked him. It’s possible that he had been abused by humans and he didn’t have any faith in them. This kind of thing happens all the time.

Stray dogs are abused and they end up mistrusting humans, so they retreat and live as far as possible from us.

Michael was the founder of Pitbulls and Addicts in New York, so he already had experience in the field. If anyone is the right person for this task, it was him.

When he found the timid pup near the tombstone, he noticed that the pup was quite feisty, and it was going to take a while to help him.

So, the man tried to gain his trust first. He wanted to show this pup that he was not a threat and that all he wanted was to help.

Michael also suspects that this dog might have been abandoned and not a stray, but it was hard to tell. His attitude towards humans shows that he suffered abuse at some point in the past.

He also noted how people were too embarrassed to surrender their dogs, so they just abandoned them on the streets without anyone noticing.

It’s Important To Do The Right Thing

This is the wrong move, and people should always try to do the right thing. If you can’t care for the dog, then surrendering it is the right move.

After gaining his trust, Michael was able to get a leash on the dog, and it was like his whole attitude changed in an instant.

The dog just gave in and allowed this man to lead him to safety. He understood that he was finally safe and the best evidence of that was his reaction when the man took him to his car.

He just decompressed, and Michael could just tell that he felt completely at ease in his presence. This was great news.

It meant that there was still a chance for a bright future for them. Michael is dedicated to helping animals who feel unloved, so I have complete faith in him.

After taking him to the shelter, he had to be checked by a veterinarian and they found an open wound on his leg, but it was nothing scary.

He would make a full recovery soon. Michael noted a complete shift in his behavior and that was wonderful. They are hoping that he will find a home soon enough.

The pup does get along with other humans well; he just doesn’t like other animals, so finding him a family with no other animals in the house is crucial. I really hope he gets his happy ending.
