While many of us grew up watching Wile E. Coyote’s cartoon antics, seeing one in real life is a different story, especially if you have pets. The mere thought of a coyote near your home can make any pet owner uneasy.
For one Arizona family, their worries became real, or so they thought.
Late one evening, Meredith Warfel noticed a mysterious canine wandering onto her patio. In the faint light of the porch, it looked exactly like a coyote. What Meredith didn’t realize then was that this unexpected visitor would change her family’s life.
A Late-Night Visitor
Over the next few nights, the same animal returned. Meredith, curious but uneasy, took a few photos and shared them online, asking neighbors for advice.
The responses came flooding in, with almost everyone agreeing that it had to be a coyote.
However, something felt off to Meredith. This animal didn’t act like a wild predator. Instead of running away, it curled up on the patio furniture, as if it had found a safe place to rest.
Its calm demeanor led her to believe that this “coyote” was actually something else entirely.
The Truth Comes Out
As it turned out, Meredith’s instincts were right.
The animal was not a wild coyote at all, but rather a dog. Most likely abandoned near a hiking trail close to the Warfel’s home, the dog was simply searching for shelter.
“We don’t really know what her backstory is. My best guess is that somebody might have abandoned her on the hiking trail close to our house and she made her way to us,” Meredith explained in a video.
The dog was thin, hungry, and in poor health. Meredith and her family couldn’t ignore her plight. They gently coaxed the dog inside and took her to a nearby humane society to check for a microchip and see if she had an owner.
For three days, the Warfel family visited the shelter, where the dog was now called Luna. They hoped someone would come forward to claim her, but no one did.
That’s when Meredith made a life-changing decision. The Warfels officially adopted Luna, bringing her home to stay.
This time, Luna wasn’t just another stray in the yard. She had found a forever home.
A Life Full Of Love
Today, Luna is the cherished “princess” of the Warfel household. She is surrounded by love, comfort, and plenty of attention.
“She’s incredibly loyal and loves the kids. She’s so affectionate and sweet, and she just loves cuddles. If you sit down, she will find your lap in about two seconds and lay down in it,” Meredith said.
Luna’s new life is filled with frisbee games, splashing in the pool, and sunbathing under the Arizona sky. She even enjoys cuddling with the family’s cats, proving just how well she fits in.
While Luna’s breed remains a mystery, the Warfel family couldn’t care less. To them, she’s perfect just the way she is.
What began as a late-night scare turned into a beautiful story of love and rescue. It’s a reminder that sometimes what we fear most is exactly what we need.
