It looked like trash; a soggy cardboard box abandoned near the sidewalk. If she hadn’t taken a second glance, she might have walked right past. But something made her stop.
Peering in, the Missouri resident recognized the shape at once: the curve of a pup’s body, curled tight, barely breathing.
Her heart jumped, and she reached in gently. The fur was cold, the environment harsh, no signs of strength whatsoever.
She wiped the rain from her glasses, took a steady breath, and carried the pup out of the box into her arms. The moment turned urgency into hope.
What began as a discarded container on a street corner became a rescue story no one expected, and a second chance for someone who almost had none.
He Was Fighting For His Life

It was an ordinary day for rescuers working for Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) when they received a shocking call from a concerned resident.
A woman found an emaciated puppy in a box and it looked like he was barely clinging to life. He didn’t have a lot of time left, so she begged rescuers to hurry.
The rescuers wasted not a single moment. They were on the scene in the blink of an eye, and they immediately took the struggling puppy to the veterinary clinic.

They were shocked when they saw how cold to the touch he was. There were barely any signs of life. They were not even able to get his temperature to register.
The first thing they did was to warm him up with as many heat sources as they could. They needed to get his temperature up fast.
They used heating pads, warm fluids and a bear hugger. The MIssouri rescuers were doing their best, but they were not succeeding.
Renlo’s Making A Slow Recovery

After many attempts, they transferred the pup, now named Renlo, to an overnight care facility. They would care for him 24/7 and this would help him to get warm again.
Thankfully, Renlo made it through the night and the rescuers were able to start his treatment plan shortly after. Three days later, he was able to stand on his feet.
This was nothing short of miraculous. He made incredible progress in just a few days. When his rescuers saw that he couldn’t move much, they allowed him to relax.
His therapy first involved just walking for a little bit every day to get his strength up. He also had to follow a strict diet to regain weight.

Soon enough, his amazing rescuers found a medical foster home for him. Since he was doing a lot better, he didn’t have to be monitored constantly, so they found someone amazing to take care of him.
This changed him completely. He was forming new habits and was getting accustomed to living in a home. Even though he was still a bit underweight, Renlo is getting everything that he needs in order to make a full recovery.
In a few months, he should be healthy enough and then he could hopefully be placed on an adoption list and this will be the start of a completely new adventure for him.
