The bond between a dog and the people who love him can run deeper than anyone expects.
A young Army couple discovered just how powerful that connection could be. Their puppy meant everything to them, and imagining life without him felt impossible.
Then, just before his very first birthday, something happened that left them heartbroken, a moment that would linger with them for years.
Trust Leads To Heartbreak

Jodie served as the emotional support dog for Gregory and Victoria Hudler of Morristown, New Jersey. He meant everything to them, cherished as if he were the most fragile treasure.
When Jodie turned one, the couple had just welcomed their first child. Feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to manage both, they temporarily placed him in the care of a family member.
When they later tried to bring him home, their calls went unanswered. In time, the family member finally confessed to selling Jodie. The Hudlers were crushed.
“At that point, with it being a family member, it was a little bit difficult,” said Gregory Hudler for News12 New Jersey. “We decided on not contacting the authorities and causing a giant mess with the family.”

Despite all their efforts to locate him, they found no trace of Jodie. Nearly two years passed, filled with worry and heartbreak, and their hope slowly slipped away.
A Miracle They Never Expected

More than eighteen months went by without Jodie. The Hudlers had almost accepted that they would never see him again.
Then, out of nowhere, a call changed everything. A shelter in Tennessee contacted them to say Jodie had been found.
No one knows how he traveled so far, but thanks to his microchip, the shelter was able to identify Gregory and Victoria as his rightful family.
The next challenge was getting Jodie back home to Morristown. That is when Wings of Rescue and Animal Lifeline stepped forward to help.
“Tomorrow Wings of Rescue will make a special stop in Knoxville, Tennessee to pick him up, and join our 130 dog transport from Mississippi, so he can be reunited with this super excited couple! We”ll be singing Reunited and It Feels So Good across the east coast! Let The Fur Fly!!!” Wings of Rescue posted on their official Facebook page.
Their reunion is difficult to put into words. The video captures the overwhelming emotion far better than anything written.
