For years, Natalie DePersia and her family from New Jersey dreamed of adding a dog to their household. Eventually, that dream came true, but not quite in the way they expected.
Everything had been arranged for the adoption, yet somewhere along the line, a surprising mix-up occurred. The family ended up bringing home the wrong dog.
It wasn’t until they were on their way home that they realized something didn’t add up. The puppy sitting in their car didn’t look like the one from the photo. A vet visit later confirmed it. Their new family member was a completely different dog.
As it turned out, fate had stepped in. The DePersias quickly fell in love with the gentle Bernese Mountain Dog they decided to name Cash.
And for Cash, the feeling was mutual. What wasn’t supposed to be his home became the perfect place for him to belong.
Years later, Cash found his own way to make his family laugh harder than ever—with a little “escape” that didn’t go quite as planned.
The Funniest “Getaway” Ever
In a video posted on Natalie’s TikTok account, @natmdepersia, she and her brother can be seen sitting in the car, both laughing uncontrollably.
At first, viewers aren’t sure what’s so funny. Then the camera pans to their open front door, and there’s Cash, lying right outside, clearly having “run away from home.”

The air quotes are crucial, because Cash didn’t get far. Instead of venturing down the street, he simply flopped down in the front yard, basking in the sun as if on vacation.
Seeing him lounging there sent Natalie into a fit of laughter.
“I was absolutely wheezing with laughter because the whole thing caught us completely off guard. My laugh does not normally sound that… interesting!” Natalie said in an interview.
Still, once the laughter subsided, Natalie admitted she was relieved to find Cash so close. “If he hadn’t been right there, I would have been frantic,” she said.
To reward him for staying close and making her laugh so hard, Natalie treated Cash to some well-earned ice cream.
my brother & I went to get food and we came back to the house with the front door wide opened and our dog, Cash, vibing on the lawn by himself. He knows his life is too good to run away😭😭😭 #foryou #foryoupage #dailyvlog #bernesemountaindog #dayinthelife #summer #dogsoftiktok
Internet Falls In Love With Cash
It didn’t take long for the video to spread across TikTok, reaching people far beyond New Jersey. Thousands of users couldn’t stop laughing at Cash’s hilarious “escape.”

“I wouldn’t leave if I lived there either,” one person commented.
“He only wanted a little freedom. Not too crazy,” another wrote.
And a third chimed in, “He said the streets ain’t for me.”
Natalie was amazed by how many people related to her dog’s funny little moment.
“I’m amazed that so many others found it as funny as I did, especially considering they don’t know Cash personally,” she said.
She added, “Every day with Cash is an adventure, and we’re grateful for the joy he brings to our lives, even if he wasn’t the dog we initially chose. He truly makes our family whole.”
