For fourteen years, Gandalf had been a loyal and loving companion to his family. He trusted them completely and believed they would always be there for him.

When he developed serious dental issues and several cysts on his body, his family decided they could no longer provide the care he needed. They brought him to Animal Haven in New York and surrendered him.
Gandalf was left heartbroken and confused, unable to understand why the people he adored had walked away from him.
Faithful Senior Dog Faces Heartbreak
The team at Animal Haven immediately fell in love with Gandalf and felt deep sympathy for him. Knowing that a kennel environment could worsen his sadness, they decided to keep him close to the front desk, where he could always be around people.
Despite their affection, Gandalf couldn’t hide his sorrow. He missed his family and waited for them, not realizing they wouldn’t be coming back.
To help him find a new home, the shelter shared his story on TikTok, hoping to reach someone who would see how special he was.
The video showed a gentle, grieving dog who couldn’t comprehend why his humans had disappeared from his life.
The shelter described Gandalf as being great with “people, children, other dogs, and probably cats,” adding that he “would likely do well in almost any type of home.”
Viewers were moved by his story, flooding the comments with messages of love and offers to adopt him.
Gandalf Finally Finds His Forever Home
Just a few days later, Animal Haven posted a joyful update: Gandalf had found his new family.
A couple had seen his TikTok video and fallen in love instantly. They wasted no time and showed up at the shelter to bring him home.
“Gandalf’s new dad was literally waiting outside of Animal Haven before we opened the day after we posted his story,” the shelter wrote.
Before starting his new life, Gandalf received the medical attention he needed. His teeth were treated, and the cyst on his chest was removed and confirmed to be a harmless lipoma.
When his new family arrived to take him home, Gandalf’s entire demeanor changed. His tail wagged, his eyes brightened, and he radiated happiness.
Today, he’s thriving with his forever family, surrounded by love, comfort, and the care he always deserved. Gandalf’s story is proof that even after heartbreak, second chances can bring incredible joy.
