Most shifts were quiet, just routine rounds and the hum of lights overhead.
But one night, a security guard walking through the parking lot spotted something that didn’t belong; a lobster trap sitting oddly between two parked cars.
It looked weathered, the kind you’d see by the docks, not on dry pavement.
He slowed down, trying to make sense of it. Maybe someone dropped it off by mistake, or it had fallen off a truck. Still, something about the way it was positioned made him curious.
When he stepped closer and peered inside, he realized it wasn’t empty. What was waiting inside caught him completely off guard.
A Raccoon Stuck In The Trap?
Not too long ago, a guard from New York spotted a lobster trap someone apparently left in a nearby parking lot. How it ended up there is a mystery.
However, what was inside was certainly interesting. The man walked closer to figure out the identity of the animal and then it dawned on him.
A raccoon was inside the trap. He looked very scared, so the man called a local animal rescuer, John Debacker, to assist in this rescue.
It took him about an hour to reach the location, but it didn’t matter. He wanted to help this raccoon get back to his home.
When he arrived, he was surprised to see that the raccoon was no longer so afraid. The raccoon had actually fallen asleep in the trap.
Maybe, in a way, he felt safe around these humans because he knew that they were going to help him, so he fell asleep.
The Raccoon Was Doing Just Fine
Debacker gently woke up the raccoon and then tried to examine him. He wanted to see if the poor animal was injured by any chance.
If he had even a minor injury, then that could become a problem in the long run, so he wanted to be sure. After a thorough examination, Debacker realized that the raccoon was healthy.
After that was established, he opened the trap door, and then slowly guided the raccoon to the nearby bushes.
When the raccoon realized that he was finally free, he sprinted back to his natural habitat. He looked so happy as well. This made Debacker feel a sense of satisfaction.
It’s still a mystery how the raccoon ended up in the trap, or even whose it is… but the good thing is that the frightened animal is now free.
Thanks to the brilliant intervention of a kind guard and John Debacker, this raccoon didn’t have to starve inside the trap and is back to living his old life.
