Finding lost animals is no easy job for rescuers. A lot of the time, you have to be prepared for the fact that you just won’t find them. They are either too far from their homes, or something horrible has happened.

This is the reality of life, but that does not mean every rescue is hopeless. There are also numerous instances where the rescuers saved the day by finding the missing pet.

Stories like this often shine a light on the difficulty of such rescues. They require many hours of searching and looking for any possible clues that could lead the rescuers to the animal.

When these rescuers from New York tried to find a lost animal, they contacted an experienced rescuer who helped alter the course of the entire task.

It’s Been Missing For Months

When John Debacker received a call from a concerned resident who had lost her rabbit, he decided to do something in order to help.

All About Rabbits Rescue tried to help this domesticated bunny for months, but they were unsuccessful. He had been deserted on a local road, so that’s where most of the effort was focused.

Every time they thought they got close, the rabbit got away from them. It was a difficult rescue, so they needed any help they could get.

The man they called to help was an expert in these types of rescues, so there was a good chance they would find the bunny.

Debacker somehow spotted the rabbit in the garden of someone’s home, so he immediately sprang into action. He placed pens around the area, so the rabbit couldn’t get away.

Once it was in place, Debacker came from the opposite direction and slowly nudged the rabbit in the right direction until he was completely encircled by the pen.

An Efficient Rescue

Now that he was caught in Debacker’s trap, the man gently grabbed him and the rabbit was now secured. The rescue was a resounding success.

Shortly after, the rabbit was taken to a veterinary clinic where it was actually established that he was suffering from fly strike, which is a condition that can be fatal if left untreated.

The bunny was sent to a foster care where his new foster parent would give him the medical care he needs in order to recover.

He was healing up nicely and everything was going smoothly for him. The New York rescuers are hopeful that when he recovers, he will be eligible for adoption.

All About Rabbits Rescue is already preparing for that outcome and the day is slowly approaching. I really hope he finds a wonderful home.

Debacker told The Dodo in the end: “It was a great feeling knowing that his life only gets better from here.
