Shelter dogs live for the day when someone will finally notice them and give them a new life. They would love to curl up next to their humans and soak up their love. Some dogs find happiness quickly, while others spend years waiting.
A shelter pup named Bobby, a 7-year-old Pit Bull mix, spent far more time in the shelter than any pup should. When he came to the shelter, he was full of life. As time passed, the noise and constant change made an impact on him.
Adopters came and went, and Bobby watched them leave without him. He felt invisible, yet he never stopped wanting a family of his own.
A Long Stay At The Shelter
Bobby came into the care of North Shore Animal League America in New York in 2022. He had been transferred from Georgia.
At first, he greeted everyone with excitement and tried his best to win their hearts.
Although he was a delightful pup, families continued to walk by.
When a family adopted him and took him home, Bobby was thrilled, and he thought it was his happily-ever-after.
Sadly, the adopters brought him back when his size and energy felt overwhelming.
The pup had been adopted once more, but was returned to the shelter for the same reason.
Each return left Bobby more confused. He had tried so hard to fit in. He couldn’t understand why he was rejected. He was a good boi.
The dog often felt sad and would curl up in his kennel.
The shelter spokesperson said in an interview that it looked as if “all the life drained out of his eyes.”
Bobby felt lost in the noise and movement around him, and even the love from staff couldn’t fully lift his spirits.
Since he needed a calmer space, the team moved him into an office, hoping it would help him feel safe.
Hoping For A New Beginning
Once Bobby settled into the office, his shelter friends noticed a big difference.
The pup began to relax.
Lead Canine Kennel Manager A.J. Mulvey and Senior Kennel Manager Rachael were happy to share the room with him, and they soon saw his playful side return.
They called him a “goofball” because he loved greeting people, digging through his toy basket, and wiggling around the room. He still thought he was a lap dog. He loved getting treats, and he always asked for affection.
Bobby felt hopeful about his future again.
And yet, he needed a real home.
Many visitors passed him by because of his age or size, but the shelter refused to give up on him. They shared his story online, and thousands of people sent him love.
“Can’t BELIEVE you are still waiting,” one of the commenters wrote, reminding everyone how easy it is to overlook a dog who has so much to give.
Currently, Bobby is still waiting for his second chance at love. The shelter believes his person is on the way.
As the staff wrote on Facebook, “He hasn’t given up hope. Neither have we.”
Hopefully, Bobby will soon meet his family and steal their heart. The sweet pup can’t wait to give them all his love.
