Frankie was only five weeks old when his world fell apart.
His family chose to leave him behind, placing the tiny Pit Bull inside a Pampers diaper box and abandoning him on a property along the West Side of Buffalo, New York.
From inside his cardboard shelter, Frankie poked his head out, scanning the unfamiliar surroundings with wide, hopeful eyes. More than anything, he wished for someone kind to notice him and carry him to safety.
A Shop Owner’s Unexpected Discovery
Robin, who ran a shop nearby, was stunned when she spotted the small puppy outside her storefront.
She carefully lifted him from the box, speaking softly to reassure him that help was on the way. Frankie, sensing her gentle nature, began to relax in her arms.
He trusted her almost immediately.
Robin had long supported West Side Cat Rescue, a Buffalo-based shelter, so she reached out to them for assistance. Jamie Mulligan, the shelter’s director, picked up the call.
Jamie believed that whoever had left Frankie outside the store likely hoped someone compassionate would find him and give him the care he needed.
West Side Cat Rescue agreed to take Frankie in. They decided against sending him to a traditional shelter, knowing how overcrowded those facilities had become.
“Unfortunately, the local shelters here are full of pit bulls that no one wants to adopt, so Jamie knew she couldn’t bring him to an overcrowded shelter,” the representative from West Side Cat Rescue told The Dodo.
It didn’t take long for Frankie to win over everyone at the rescue. He wanted nothing more than to be held close, craving affection above all else.
His caregivers soon brought him to a veterinarian for a thorough examination. Once supplies were gathered—food, a leash, and a collar—Frankie was ready to move into a foster home.
A Foster Home Filled With Love
Jamie’s daughter, a regular volunteer at the shelter, offered to foster the little pup.
From the moment Frankie stepped into her home, his life began to change. She showered him with cuddles and affection, making sure he felt safe and cherished.
As the days passed, their connection grew deeper. When Jamie’s daughter mentioned wanting to give him a new name, her family realized she had become truly attached.
She chose to call him Percy.
“It’s now looking like [Jamie’s] daughter has become attached. Percy is now a foster fail,” the representative added.
In his new home, Percy felt secure and adored. With joy sparkling in his eyes, he soaked up every ounce of love that surrounded him.
He had finally found the life he’d always dreamed of.
