New York Shelter Dog Covered In Stress And Heartache Finds Quiet Joy In One Woman’s Arms

Many dogs have a hard time emotionally after ending up in a shelter.

Some keep clinging to the hope that a family will choose them and bring them into a loving home, while others get overwhelmed by the stress and confusion that comes with such a sudden change in everything they know.

Brooklyn, a sweet and loving pup, found herself facing one of the hardest periods of her life after she was surrendered to a shelter when her owner moved out of state.

Just like that, the familiar life she had always known disappeared, leaving her confused and heartbroken as she tried to make sense of why everything around her had changed so fast.

Adjusting To Life At The Shelter

Brooklyn arrived at the Manhattan facility of Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) .

She had difficulty adjusting to the shelter’s environment. Missing her owner terribly, she often waited near her kennel door as if expecting to see a familiar face appear at any moment.

Her growing anxiety began to affect her physical health.

“Brooklyn was stressed in the shelter and had allergic dermatitis, causing her to lose patches of hair,” Katy Hansen, marketing and communications director at ACC, said in an interview.

In an effort to make her more comfortable, staff members moved Brooklyn to the shelter manager’s office, where she could rest away from the noise and constant activity.

Fortunately, Dr. Jay Kuhlman, a board member at ACC, stepped in to provide treatment for her skin condition. With care and patience, Brooklyn began her recovery.

The shelter team quickly fell in love with her sweet personality and rooted for her to find the loving home she deserved.

Healing Through Love

The ACC Foster Team soon found Brooklyn a foster family who could provide her with a calm and nurturing environment.

Her foster parents were fully dedicated to her recovery, surrounding her with affection and reassurance. Away from the stressful shelter setting, Brooklyn began to relax and heal, both physically and emotionally.

As she regained her strength, her happy and affectionate personality started to shine through. Her foster family adored her gentle nature and radiant smile.

Thanks to their love and care, Brooklyn left her past behind and began to look forward to a brighter future.

Finding Her Forever Family

Not long after, a woman named Sayra came across Brooklyn’s profile and instantly felt drawn to her. She knew she had found her dog and submitted an adoption application right away.

When the shelter staff heard that their beloved Brooklyn had finally found a home, they were overjoyed.

After months of waiting, Brooklyn’s dream had come true. Her eyes sparkled with happiness as she met her new mom for the first time.

She lovingly said goodbye to her shelter friends, who had cared for her so deeply, and then walked out the door beside Sayra, ready to begin her new life.

Her joyful face said it all. She knew she was finally home.

The shelter later shared a video of Brooklyn on TikTok, featuring updates from Sayra about her adjustment.

“It’s hard to believe we have only been together for two weeks. From the first night, she has slept soundly throughout the night,” Sayra shared.

Brooklyn officially moved into her new home in Brooklyn, New York, and received a new name: Yeobo, a Korean term of endearment.

She and Sayra formed a deep bond almost instantly and have since become inseparable.

Yeobo, once an anxious and heartbroken shelter dog, has blossomed into a confident and content pup. Her bright smile and peaceful sleep each night reflect how far she has come.

She and her forever mom adore each other, proving that love and patience
