New York Woman Noticed Odd Notes On Her Windshield And Discovered The Truth Hidden Below

By George Taylor 10/24/2025

Helping stray dogs is often much simpler than helping stray cats. Dogs, even those who have suffered neglect, tend to seek human companionship again.

Cats, however, are far more cautious. Once they lose trust, gaining it back takes patience and creativity.

Anyone who has tried to rescue a frightened cat knows the feeling: you reach out, and they bolt in fear. It makes saving them challenging, though never impossible.

This truth became very real for one woman from New York. When she discovered several alarming notes on her car, warning her about cats hiding underneath it, she knew she had to do something right away.

A Neighborhood Joins The Rescue

After reading the notes, Maria Yagoda immediately called the number written on them. The woman who had left the messages answered quickly and hurried over to help.

Before long, several neighbors also joined in.

No one was entirely sure whether the kitten was trapped under the car or somewhere inside the engine, but faint cries helped them narrow it down. The frightened animal had been meowing nonstop, desperate for help.

Realizing they needed expert assistance, Maria contacted Greenpoint Cats, a rescue group known for handling complex cat rescues in the city.

A volunteer arrived soon after with a creative plan in mind.

She began playing recorded kitten sounds to draw the cat out. The trapped kitten responded immediately, confirming his location inside the car.

Now that they knew where he was, the next step was figuring out how to get him out safely.

But the terrified little one refused to come out on his own.

The Kitten Finally Comes Out

The volunteer then brought along another kitten named Lydia from the shelter, hoping her presence might help calm the scared cat. One of the neighbors also brought a friendly local cat who was more vocal, in hopes that familiar sounds would encourage the kitten to move.

The plan worked, but only partially. The kitten emerged briefly, then darted under another car in fear.

Determined not to give up, the neighbors quickly set up humane traps and used barricades to prevent the kitten from escaping again. It took time, patience, and teamwork, but their persistence paid off.

Eventually, the frightened cat was safely caught.

A Happy Ending For Pothole

The rescuers named the little kitten Pothole, a nod to his harrowing adventure under the cars. Once safe, he began to relax and even bonded with Lydia, the kitten who had come along to help.

Both were taken to the Greenpoint Cats shelter in New York for a medical checkup. Thankfully, Pothole was healthy and only needed rest and nourishment.

Before long, Pothole and Lydia were placed on the adoption list. It didn’t take long for them to capture the hearts of a loving family who adopted them both.

Now, the once-terrified kitten lives a life full of warmth, comfort, and companionship. What started with a few handwritten notes turned into a rescue that brought an entire community together and saved a tiny life in need.

this was such a saga 😭😭thank you to Greenpoint Cats and the neighborhood girlies for coming together #catsoftiktok #rescue #adoptdontshop #cattok #kitten
