Having cared for dogs before, one of the most challenging parts is constantly watching to make sure they stay safe.
Much like toddlers, puppies view the world as a giant playground. Their favorite pastime is exploring everything around them with boundless energy.
But this adventurous spirit can sometimes lead to unexpected danger. Their unpredictable behavior means they occasionally find themselves in risky situations.
That’s exactly what happened to Cloud, a young foster puppy, during a playful afternoon outside with her littermates. While enjoying the sunshine, she was stung by a bee. Fortunately, her foster mom saw it happen and rushed over to help.
How Cloud Found Her Way To Safety

Jean first met Cloud through Hope Animal Rescue, a North Carolina-based organization that had saved Cloud and her siblings.
The entire litter was in need of foster homes, but placing all nine puppies proved to be a difficult task. Caring for such a large group was no small feat.
Initially, Jean hesitated to take Cloud in because she had plans to travel. Without someone to temporarily foster the puppies, the situation seemed uncertain.
But as often happens, her plans shifted unexpectedly at the last minute.

She told GeoBeats Animals: “So I said I probably can’t because I don’t think we’re gonna be able to find a temporary foster to care for nine puppies. But then I decided I really would rather get these nine puppies than leave town and visit my sister-in-law.”
Jean and her husband welcomed all nine puppies into their home. They quickly realized they needed to create a better environment to accommodate the energetic group.
Her husband constructed a separate building for the puppies, complete with electricity and air conditioning to keep them comfortable.
A Sudden Sting Interrupts Playtime

The yard surrounding the new space became an ideal playground for the puppies. Just as they were settling in, an unexpected incident occurred.
While running around outside, Cloud was stung by a bee. Jean spotted the reaction immediately and took her to a veterinary clinic in North Carolina.
Veterinarians examined Cloud and decided she should remain at the clinic for observation throughout the day. Unfortunately, the situation didn’t end there.

Jean said: “I came back and noticed that two of the other puppies looked like they had been bitten, that my husband just didn’t notice.”
She brought the other two puppies to the emergency clinic as well. Thankfully, their reactions were mild. The vets administered Benadryl injections and confirmed they would recover without complications.
Meanwhile, Cloud’s swelling persisted, and Jean grew concerned when she saw little improvement.

Despite the lingering symptoms, the veterinarians reassured Jean that Cloud could safely return home. She would need continued treatment with Benadryl to help reduce the swelling.
By the following morning, Jean noticed a clear improvement. Cloud’s swelling had gone down, and she was back to her cheerful, energetic self.
Although it’s still uncertain whether Cloud and her siblings have found permanent homes, it’s clear that the rescue team is doing everything they can to give these puppies a chance at a joyful future.
