Grace’s deepest wish was to be loved.
This tender-hearted Doberman mix had endured more than her share of pain. After being struck by a car and left with serious injuries, she spent days longing for someone to notice her suffering and offer kindness.
Eventually, Grace was welcomed into a foster home where compassionate caregivers gave her the warmth and security she had been missing.
Just as her life began to turn around, another painful chapter unfolded.
A Painful Past And A New Beginning

Juliana, founder of Dirt Road Dogs in Choctaw, Oklahoma, couldn’t turn away when she learned about Grace’s situation. She brought her into the rescue and made sure she received the care she needed.
“She is a loyal and sweet mini Dobie who is being fostered here at camp with @dirtroad_dogs after she was found hit by a car and suffering with a broken foot,” DRD wrote on Instagram.
Grace took time to adjust to her new surroundings. She grew close to people quickly, though it took a little longer for her to feel at ease around the other dogs in the home.

After several months, Grace had blossomed into a joyful and affectionate companion. Her spirit had returned, and she radiated happiness.
The black Doberman mix became everything a family could hope for in a pet. Her gentle nature soon led her to what everyone hoped would be her permanent home.
An Unexpected Call Brings Devastating News

Juliana and her family were thrilled to see Grace begin her new life. But nearly a year later, Juliana received a phone call that broke her heart.
The family who had adopted Grace had been arrested for abuse and neglect. Grace was found in animal control custody, along with other dogs who had suffered mistreatment. Her microchip allowed authorities to trace her back to Juliana’s rescue.
“She and the other dogs had been starved, neglected and abused. Her and the few that survived were taken in and given medical treatment,” DRD wrote.

Juliana was stunned. She had believed Grace was finally living the life she deserved. Instead, the dog had endured yet another traumatic experience.
Juliana and her family didn’t hesitate. They rushed to bring Grace back home. Still, Juliana worried whether Grace would recognize them after so much time had passed.
But the moment they reunited, her fears disappeared. Grace remembered everything.
“It’s been almost a year since Grace left us but when she saw us it was clear she remembered us,” DRD added.

After all she had been through, Grace’s journey had come full circle. This time, Juliana and her family made a promise: Grace would never leave again.
Now, Grace is safe in her Oklahoma home, surrounded by love and care. Though she still needs time to heal, she no longer faces fear or neglect.
Her future will be filled with comfort, companionship, and joyful moments with her dog siblings.
