You’d think a Golden Retriever loves car rides. He got into that car countless times, expecting the same return home after every stay at Grandma’s.
She gave belly rubs and treats, and the couch there might as well have had his name on it.
This visit, though, when the time came to leave, he hesitated. His paws stayed planted; his eyes locked on the door. The family gently urged him forward, but he didn’t step up.
They thought he was just stubborn, or maybe tired. Instead, they stood frozen, watching their loyal companion make a choice they hadn’t considered.
The reason he stayed behind turned out to be both obvious and touching, and they couldn’t blame him.
He Doesn’t Like This Idea
When Delanie Gilbridge took her dog Honey to visit Grandma, the Golden Retriever got really excited. Visiting her is his favorite time of day.
Honey stays at Grandma’s twice a week and usually when Gilbridge is at work. When the Pennsylvania owner comes to pick up her dog, it’s clear that the pup wants to stay a little longer.
He has such a good time with his grandma that he would love to spend more time with her if he could.
This one time, Gilbridge went to pick her up, and the dog straight up just wouldn’t budge. She hid under the table and just gave his owner a look.
This made her laugh. She couldn’t believe how stubborn her dog had become. She was really happy to see that Honey and her mom have such a special relationship.
It shows just how well she is treated all the time. Another interesting fact is that the two of them also have the same birthday, so she is pretty spoiled when staying at Grandma’s.

Gilbridge found her dog’s reaction so hilarious that she went on her TikTok and posted it. The TikTok community had many interesting replies.
One person commented: “The lil’ paw to console you when she tells you she’s not leaving.”
Yeah, it’s like she wants to tell you that she’s doing just fine with her grandma, and you can leave. That’s probably her thought process.
Another person said: “She is trying to tell you,without hurting your feelings, but she is home. She needs you to bring her things, next time you visit. Grandma is her person now.”
Sure seems that way. I think Grandma became her favorite person now, and there is no changing that. She just needs her things to move in completely.
Lastly, somebody commented: “I’m actually her family services case worker and she actually has full jurisdiction to stay at grandmas!! Laws are laws.”
Oh well, if that’s the case, then I don’t see what could be done about it. This is how it has to be now. It seems like Honey can stay as long as she wants.
No, but seriously, it’s really heartwarming to see how dogs can form bonds so easily with other people, and it’s really touching that Gilbridge’s mom connected with Honey on such a level that this was her reaction to leaving. They truly are best friends.
