We can never forget the thrill of bringing home our first puppies, right?
They start off as tiny bundles of fur. You know, the tripping-over-their-own-paws and chewing-on-slippers types of situations. Then they grow up big. Some, truly big! Before you know it, that once-lapdog of yours is hogging the entire couch.
Arielle Garber, the owner of a St. Bernard Bernese Mountain Dog mix from Pennsylvania, knows this feeling all too well. She adopted Milo as a puppy, not realizing that her adorable rescue would grow into a gentle giant.
Now, three years later, Arielle finally understands what the farmer meant when he warned her about “how big he’s going to get.”
From A Few Pounds To Bigger Than His Humans
Moving into her new Pennsylvania home, Arielle wanted her kids to feel the joy of owning a pet. Just three days later, she saw a Facebook post about a litter of puppies on a pig farm, looking for a forever home.
The second she arrived, she fell in love with one particular pup: Milo.
“3 days into owning my home I saw a post on FB about pups that needed a home… I immediately got in my car and drove over to this pig farm. Saw Milo and that second I said I want him,” Arielle shared on Threads.
He was fluffy, enthusiastic, tail-wagging, and, well, adorable. What Arielle didn’t realize, though, was that he was a “giant dog” breed, so when the farmer asked her if she was sure, she didn’t hesitate at all.
“The pig farmer said to me “you do realize how big he’s going to get right?“ Well I didn’t know I’d have a dog who’s 5’5 on his hind legs and weighs more than me, but here we are,” Arielle added.
Three years later, she finally learned what the farmer meant.
Now, Milo officially outweighs his entire family. He’s a 150-pound dog who takes up a big amount of space literally everywhere: in the house, in the car, even in the yard.
But the good news is that Milo is also a gentle lovebug! Even with his size skyrocketing, his personality hasn’t changed one bit.
The Best Friend
Milo’s goofy charm and affection have made him more than just a pet. He’s officially family, and his hooman siblings can’t get enough of him.
Whether it’s cuddling on the couch, greeting his family with giant-sized hugs, or keeping company through quiet nights at home, one thing is for sure: Milo has brought warmth and laughter into every corner of their lives, just like Arielle wanted in the first place.
“He now officially weighs more than me & doesn’t realize his size but he’s my best friend,” Arielle shared in another post.
His size may draw attention, but it’s truly his heart that wins people over.
