Pittie’s Gentle Eyes Peek From A Rusted Truck In Hawaii And Capture A Rescuer’s Heart

Summer Whitmore has witnessed more than her fair share of difficult moments.

Her rescue work often places her directly in front of hungry dogs, harsh environments, and places where animals have been forgotten.

This day was no different.

As she made her usual stops to provide food for strays, she visited several familiar gathering spots. Her attention was mainly on the dogs already riding in her vehicle, yet one unexpected sight pulled her focus.

From inside a rusted, decaying truck, a Pittie gazed out at her with eyes so tender that Summer instantly knew she would return for her.

A Gentle Soul Waiting In Silence

Summer, the founder of Dog Days of Summer Sanctuary in Hawaii, hoped the dog she’d seen in the truck would still be there when she returned.

“Even if I have dogs already with me when I see a dog in need, I always stop, secure my dogs in the vehicle and then go check on the dog in need to assess the situation,” shared Summer in a Facebook post.

She hurried to drop off the puppies at the sanctuary, then came back. Sitting outside the truck was the same Pittie girl, clearly thrilled to see her.

“This pooch was happy to see me and definitely in need of medical attention, food and love,” added Summer.

Unlike many strays who take time to trust, this Pittie, later named Peaches, was instantly warm and welcoming.

When Summer invited her into the car, Peaches jumped in without hesitation. She seemed to understand that her life was about to change.

At the sanctuary, Peaches underwent a full veterinary exam. The Hawaii team found mange, worms, and fleas, conditions they expected given her past.

She also had multiple wounds and was severely underweight.

Despite everything, Peaches radiated joy. Her smile never faded. She was finally in a place that offered safety, and it showed in every expression.

Healing, Comfort, And A New Beginning

It only took a few days for Peaches to begin thriving.

With treatment underway, she started eating well, napping peacefully, playing with other dogs, and enjoying every toy the team gave her.

“Peaches is doing well at the sanctuary. We have started her medical care and we gave her some toys to choose from – she picked them all,” Summer concluded.

She even spent her evenings watching sunsets from a cozy rocking chair. Her world had transformed.

Still, one thing is missing: a permanent home.

When the time comes, Peaches will find a family who will show her the love she’s always deserved. And there’s no doubt she’ll be the most devoted companion anyone could ask for.
