I have come across countless stories of dogs abandoned in heartbreaking circumstances, and I thought very little could still shock me. Then this case surfaced and proved otherwise.
Some acts are so difficult to comprehend that they almost feel unreal, leaving a dog somewhere survival would be nearly impossible without someone stepping in.
This is one of those stories.
In California, a dog was discovered alone on a rooftop, sitting inside a shopping cart. There were no protective barriers around the roof, leaving her in serious danger. Thankfully, a security guard spotted her and responded without hesitation.
Quick Action Saves The Day

When security guard Joey Tuccio noticed a dog stranded on the rooftop, he immediately contacted a nonprofit organization called Starts with One Today.
They responded promptly and arrived to assist in the rescue.
Tuccio shared with People:“Paris was found abandoned in a shopping cart on top of a roof of a building on Skid Row a week ago. We teamed up with Wild Horizon Rescue to cover the cost of her vetting, and a friend of mine is now fostering Paris.”

The most devastating part of Paris’ experience was the likely hours she spent alone on that open rooftop with no food or water. It must have been a hopeless and terrifying time for her.
Before heading to her foster home, Tuccio took her to a veterinary clinic in California for a thorough checkup.
Thankfully, Paris was in good health, with the exception of some conjunctivitis. No microchip was found either.
Finding Care And Comfort

Tuccio noted, “We don’t know how she ended up on the roof. Sadly, many unhoused people in Skid Row are dealing with drug addiction, which sometimes leads them to abandon their dogs for extended periods. We often find dogs like Paris, and we work to find them new homes.”
Once in her foster home, Paris quickly realized she was in a place where people cared about her well-being. It didn’t take long for her to relax and feel secure.
Tuccio remains hopeful that Paris will eventually find a forever home, though the process may take some time. He is thankful that she is now in the care of a foster family.

He added, “An ideal adopter is someone who doesn’t work 8-hour days away from home, lives in Los Angeles, and is ready to spoil her. She could thrive in a home with other dogs or as the only dog.”
Tuccio hopes Paris’ story will inspire others to adopt dogs in need. Each adoption has the potential to change a life, and in some cases, save one.
The problem of abandoned dogs in California is still significant, and more support is urgently needed.
