Donna Lochmann and the rescue team at a Missouri shelter were no strangers to difficult situations.
So when they learned that a frightened little animal was hiding in thick brush near a busy road, they did not hesitate. They headed out right away, ready to help.
Donna and Kristen searched carefully through the dense overgrowth, moving slowly and staying alert, sure the tiny creature had to be close.
Before long, their patience paid off.
A small face finally appeared, peeking out from the tall grass.
Trapped With Nowhere To Run
The moment Donna and Kristen spotted him, they immediately stopped. A small black puppy stared back at them, shaking in fear as traffic roared nearby.
Each passing truck made him curl tighter into the grass. He clearly wanted to flee but had nowhere to go. Thankfully, Donna and Kristen were ready to help him escape the dangerous situation.
They approached slowly, giving him space and time to understand they were not a threat. They expected hesitation, yet the puppy, who would later be named Jet, relaxed sooner than expected. It was as if he realized these humans were there to protect him.
“We just rescued Jet from a busy highway, he was hunkered down and shaking, not knowing where to go,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote in a Facebook post.
Within moments, Jet was riding safely in the back seat of their car. The danger was behind him, and he was finally on his way to safety.
As soon as he settled in, Jet began showing his gentle and affectionate personality. He wanted to be near people, eager to give and receive love.
However, when the shelter staff scanned his microchip, the mood shifted. Jet had once belonged to a family. When the rescue contacted them, they learned the truth. His former owners explained they had already given him away and did not want him back.
“We thought we would reunite him with worried and ecstatic owners, but of course when we called, they said they had given him away to someone,” shared SRSL in an update.
A Fresh Start
Despite the disappointing news, the rescue team remained devoted to finding Jet the life he deserved. They quickly realized he struggled in the busy shelter environment and needed a quieter place to settle.
Only a few days later, a foster family offered to take him in. Jet’s joy was immediate, and his entire demeanor softened.
In his foster home, he now has room to relax and adjust. His caregivers say he has wonderful manners and loves nothing more than curling up with his people.
He also enjoys playful moments and approaches each day with enthusiasm. This young pup is ready for new experiences and dreams of finding someone who will cherish him fully.
His rescuers are committed to making that happen.
“We accepted beautiful Jet into our Stray Rescue family and promised him we’ll find a family for him who will love, adore, and respect him for his entire life! He is 1.5 years old, 56 pounds, and so kind,” the rescue concluded.
