While on their way to a doctor’s appointment, Dyesa and her friend spotted something unusual outside a grocery store in Phoenix, Arizona: a small puppy sitting all alone in a shopping cart.
They quickly pulled over to check on him. The tiny dog looked anxious and uncertain, but the moment the kind women approached, he began to relax, sensing that help had finally arrived.
Dyesa and her friend comforted the pup and tried to find out whether his owner was nearby. After speaking with store employees, they learned that the dog had likely been sitting outside since around 5 a.m. No one seemed to know where he had come from or who he belonged to.
Bringing The Little Dog To Safety
The women suspected the puppy had been left behind. Feeling heartbroken, they decided they couldn’t walk away without helping him.
They shared some food with the little dog, later named Herbert, and wrapped him in a jacket to keep him warm and comfortable.
Once he finished eating, Dyesa contacted Maricopa County Animal Care & Control to make sure Herbert received proper care and protection.
Dyesa posted a video on her TikTok account, sharing Herbert’s story and hoping to find someone who could adopt him or locate his owner.
The clip spread quickly. Many viewers expressed sadness over the situation and frustration that no one at the store had helped sooner. Most assumed that Herbert had been abandoned by his owner.
However, just a few days later, the real story came to light, and it completely changed how everyone saw the situation.
Five days after the first post, Dyesa shared an update revealing that Herbert had not been abandoned after all.
“The dog ran out of the house, and the owner couldn’t locate him,” Dyesa explained in a comment.
No one could explain how the little pup ended up inside a grocery cart, but it was clear that his disappearance had worried his family deeply.
Herbert’s owner had been searching tirelessly for him, calling every local shelter in hopes of finding any clue. Unfortunately, because the dog was still under a standard three-day stray hold, his information wasn’t yet available in the shelter’s system.
Everything changed when one of the owner’s friends saw Dyesa’s TikTok video and immediately sent it to him.
A Heartwarming Reunion
The moment the owner learned where Herbert was, he rushed to Maricopa County Animal Care & Control to bring him home.
By coincidence, Dyesa happened to be visiting Herbert that same day and was able to witness their emotional reunion firsthand.
As soon as the puppy saw his dad, his whole body lit up with joy. He wagged his tail furiously, leaped toward him, and appeared to smile from ear to ear.
The lost puppy, whose real name turned out to be Roy, finally returned home to his loving family.
Roy wasn’t the only one excited about the reunion, his doggy brother had missed him just as much. When the two were reunited, their happiness was undeniable.
Roy’s owner was incredibly thankful to Dyesa for caring for his pup and for sharing his story online, which ultimately helped bring them back together.
