Sometimes, one decision is all it takes to change a life forever.
When Randi first saw Bunny’s photo online, she felt an instant connection. That single choice led Bunny, a mostly blind shelter dog from rural Texas, to a new beginning and a loving family.
For the first time, Bunny experienced what it meant to be truly cared for: warm cuddles, a safe home, and unconditional love. But the surprises did not stop there. Despite her blindness, Bunny soon showed everyone that she could live life like a true athlete.
From Shelter Dog to Fetch Champion
Bunny’s story is one of strength and determination.
Born with Collie Eye Anomaly, a congenital eye condition, she was abandoned as a puppy at a Texas shelter where her chances of adoption were slim.
Thankfully, a rescue group stepped in and arranged for Bunny to travel across the country to meet her new mom, Randi.
Once home, Bunny’s personality began to shine. She quickly learned to enjoy walks, the ocean breeze, and long play sessions with her mom.
Randi soon noticed something amazing: Bunny had an extraordinary ability to adapt. She could follow Randi’s voice, track her movements, and even play fetch like a sighted dog.
“She uses the wind, what’s under her feet, smells, sounds, there’s so many things she’s using to navigate. She can map something out and remember it in a couple rounds of doing something,” her mom told GeoBeats Animals.
Before long, Bunny’s favorite game became retrieving balls from the water, guided only by her senses.

Her sharp hearing and powerful sense of smell allowed her to excel at fetch, even outperforming other dogs.
“Part of why Bunny loves playing fetch in the water is she knows she has the advantage over other dogs,” Randi explained in an Instagram post.
Living Life To The Fullest
Today, Bunny’s life is full of joy and adventure. Though she was born blind, she has proven that her condition does not limit her spirit. She swims, runs, and plays fearlessly every day.
When she is not chasing balls, Bunny loves going for bike rides. Randi places her in a basket so she can enjoy the world safely and comfortably.
“Bunny loves riding the bike. Being blind makes sticking her head out the car window super scary, but riding the bike is the perfect speed to smell and listen to things,” Randi wrote on Instagram.
People who meet Bunny are often astonished to learn she cannot see. Her energy and confidence are contagious, showing just how adaptable and joyful she is.
Aside from managing occasional seizures, Bunny continues to live her best life. Every day brings new smells, sounds, and opportunities to explore, and she embraces them all with enthusiasm.
