After receiving several reports from residents about a stray dog joyfully wandering through Arlington, Texas, Animal Services decided to step in and help.
The happy-go-lucky Pit Bull mix, later named Bitsy, had been trotting through neighborhoods, greeting anyone who crossed her path.
Fortunately, one day she paused at the home of a kind local. That stop made it much easier for Officer Allex Pollard to locate her and bring her to safety.
A Dog Full Of Sunshine

From the instant Officer Pollard saw Bitsy, she could tell this was no ordinary rescue.
“Officer Alex Pollard said when she arrived at the address, Bitsy was laying on her back, feet up in the air like she had just had the best day, but was worn out from her fun,” a spokesperson from the City of Arlington, Texas Animal Services, tells People.
The shelter noted that while many strays are often nervous or uncertain, Bitsy’s confidence stood out right away.
“Bitsy immediately made her presence known. She is a happy, rambunctious, energetic dog. She is very attached to being with people and makes the funniest dinosaur noises when she wants more attention from you,” the shelter says.
Bitsy quickly won everyone over with her upbeat spirit. Her enthusiasm for human company is impossible to miss: when she’s overjoyed, her whole body wiggles.
Her bright, beaming expression has also become her trademark.
“Bitsy’s smile was noticed instantly! She is literally always happy, but especially when she sees or is with people!” the shelter spokesperson says.
Hoping For A Second Chance

Once her 72-hour stray hold passed and no one came forward, the team began preparing her for adoption.
Because they believed she might have hearing difficulties, Bitsy was designated as a VIP Adoptable Pet.
“When pets are made VIP at Arlington Animal Services, we reduce their adoption fee and feature them in hopes of finding their forever homes quickly,” the spokesperson explained.
A few days later, the shelter moved Bitsy to a special area known as the “adoption mall.”
Located near the entrance, it features a small number of kennels where dogs can get extra attention from visitors.
It was there that Bitsy’s radiant personality shined even brighter.

The moment she settled in, she lifted her head, flashed her biggest grin through the window, and instantly caught everyone’s eye.
“She was so happy! It honestly didn’t surprise us, but it is like she knew this was her chance at a family! She loves looking out the window and seeing staff or visitors in the shelter and is even happier than she was before,” the shelter spokesperson shared.
Even with her joyful attitude and online popularity, Bitsy’s perfect match has yet to appear.
Shelter staff remain hopeful that the right family will see her for who she truly is: a spirited, affectionate dog eager to share her love.
“Bitsy wants and needs love, time, and attention. Someone willing to work with the possibility of her being deaf. She is a smart dog who absolutely loves to please people,” the shelter said.
Waiting With A Smile
Everyone at the shelter is confident that Bitsy’s forever home is just around the corner. Her cheerful grin has already brightened the days of everyone who meets her.
“We are confident a new family will come for Bitsy, but we hope this brings awareness to homeless shelter dogs waiting in the windows everywhere and that someone will consider opening their hearts and homes to a shelter dog in need,” the spokesperson concluded.
