She watched the puppies tumble and play in the yard, smiling at how much they resembled their mom. Everything looked familiar, predictable, safe. Then she thought it might be worth knowing more, just for curiosity’s sake.
One afternoon she scheduled a DNA test for the litter, expecting a few surprises. After all, mixed breeds often hide bits of unexpected ancestry. She gathered the samples, filled out the forms, and sent them off.
Days passed; the results arrived, and she opened the email with light excitement. The screen told a different story than she had expected.
What this woman from West Virginia discovered in those DNA results changed everything she thought she knew about her puppies.
Shocking News

When Mae first met her dog Gracie, she was actually her neighbor’s dog. Mae noticed that they were neglecting the dog.
She was always nervous and barked constantly. Gracie was pretty neglected, so she volunteered to take her off their hands, and they agreed.
That’s when everything changed for Mae. Gracie changed her life. This sweet dog flourished in Mae’s care, but then everything changed one day.
Mae noticed that the pup was starting to get bigger only to learn that Gracie was actually pregnant.

When Mae first learned about her dog’s surprise puppies, she was a little bit curious as to who their father was. There was a list of potential candidates, but it was hard to be sure.
Since she was in rural West Virginia, it was common to see neighborhood dogs running around, so it was possible that one of them was the father.
None of the puppies shared Gracie’s golden color. They were all black. That narrowed the search for Mae a little bit.
But Mae didn’t have any more time to worry about that, because she had to take care of Gracie and her puppies.
‘You Are Not The Father’

However, Mae didn’t just stop there. She advertised these puppies in local adoption groups on Facebook. Some family friends decided to take in one, and Mae was only left with two.
Then, shockingly, Mae saw a post a few months later about the puppies that were abandoned somewhere in West Virginia, and one of them looked like Gracie’s dog.
So she rushed to help him. She volunteered to take the pup, now named Jax, to see if his mom would recognize him.
While that might not work, Mae remembered a DNA test she was intending to do. She wanted to test Jax, Gracie, and the dogs around the neighborhood to see who the father was.

So she did that and the results were quite shocking. Apparently, a neighborhood dog named Sheltie was the father of all the puppies, including Jax.
They also found out that Gracie had another sibling that nobody knew about, and his name was Charlie. Mae tried to contact the owner, but had no luck.
As fate would have it, another surprise came when she learned that Charlie abandoned and then fostered by someone in Jacksonville.
Mae was so happy to see that Gracie’s sibling got a happy ending. And she was also happy to finally know who the father of Gracie’s children was. It was an interesting story for the family.
