What Started As Roadside Cleanup In Rhode Island Turned Into A Rescue Of Babies Tangled In Briars

Clearing debris along the roadside isn’t usually the kind of work that surprises anyone. Most days it’s the same routine: cutting back branches, picking up trash, and keeping the path clear for drivers.

Nothing about it feels unusual. But as the crew pulled a thick patch of tangled briars, one of them noticed something soft caught in the thorns.

From a distance, it just looked like fuzz or clumps of dried grass. Still, something about it didn’t look right.

They stepped closer to take a better look, not realizing that what they were about to uncover was very much alive.

Shocking Revelation

Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) was just doing its job when they noticed something unusual in the woods.

As they brought down a tree, they noticed four furry animals lying in the leaves. It was hard to determine from that position what they were, so one of the workers got closer.

They were actually kittens who were stuck in the prickly branches. The workers didn’t see their mother anywhere nearby, so they attempted to help.

They were so small that it was impossible for them to survive without their mother for long. The kittens needed professional help.

So, the workers cut the branches off carefully because they didn’t want to accidentally hurt the kittens. Once that was taken care of, they began extracting them.

All four kittens were secured, and RIDOT workers called animal control for help. They were the only ones who could help at this moment.

Everything Turned Out Great

It took a while, but someone finally arrived to pick them up. Shortly after that, they were taken to a veterinary clinic in Rhode Island for a checkup.

RIDOT workers were happy to see that these kittens were doing well. Who knows what they have been through? They were probably very hungry.

After receiving medical help, they were actually transferred to North Kingstown Animal Shelter. The rescuers are caring for them now.

They are also searching for a forever home for all four of them. Given that they are still really small, the rescuers are confident that they will find a home in no time.

It’s sad that the workers couldn’t find their mom. No one really knows anything about how the kittens ended up there, or if their mom is even around, but they couldn’t find her.

Right now, they are just too small to be adopted. They need professional care and the shelter staff are giving them that.

It’s really good to see how they are all doing well, and I really hope that they find their new families as soon as possible.
